Much better from Lancs today, partly because the pitch wasn't quite so flat and partly because Lancs played with greater energy and purpose. This has happened a lot this season - a good fightback after a poorish start. It's a pity we can't play well from the off. Good to see Jennings and Wells back to form and good to see Lancs batting with some urgency in the first innings for once. Morley looks promising and really earned his wickets this morning.

Thanks for posting those articles Chris. Surprised Paul Edwards was there ; he often seems to pick his grounds and thought he would be at Taunton or Scarborough.
Certainly , I’ve no regrets that I gave up my long held Lancashire membership.

Not always a fan of Paul Edwards, but he was spot on in that final paragraph. The lack of concern for the basic requirements for spectators at this match is breathtaking and shameful.

I was there Tues and Wed and in all my years going to watch Lancashire I have never known so many angry, sad and upset Members. To be put in 2 small stands like sheep in a pen was shameful. Paul Edwards was absolutely spot on with his report, the observations didn't come from an action group or moaning Members, it came from a respected journalist. Lancashire are fully aware of the piece as I asked the question to one of the hierarchy at last night's Forum...will they act or will they sweep it under the carpet is the next question?

Quite glad in retrospect that an out ground didn’t get saddled with the weather for this match.
Nice article by Darren Stevens in The Cricket Paper this week talking of his affection for out grounds. Aigburth got a mention and a picture.
With the August cricket desert looming, this is depressing weather with the first of a few oases looking like a mirage . Not looking good for League cricket Saturday which would be a fourth consecutive no result. I was going to go to Sunday and Tuesday of Cheshire’s game at Alderley Edge but as soon as I saw the Sunday weather, I thought there was little chance of the match being started and so it proved. At least Cheshire have a three day game at Chester starting 13 August which provides a bit of hope.

Early lunch at 12.30. Forecast is for a better afternoon and early evening, possibility of playing 13.40 until 19.00 still gives 5 hours play?

Anything of interest on the players/recruitment side of things at the forum? Chilton on the players. He spoke about the 3 outgoing and said everybody will have their own opinion. They wanted to see how Parky went in the VB before offering a new contract but Kent nipped in and snapped him up. He still backed CDG and said hindsight is a great thing, he was in the team against Essex instead of Balderson because he looked good in the nets and also has a great attitude that Members/supporters don't always see. They tried for Tongue but he chose Notts due to links with Kevin Shine, they were also in for Haynes but once again he chose Notts. He brought up the 3 IPL players saying it was tough to acclimatise from IPL to VB, Livi was praised to the hilt for his commitment and captaincy? There will be no more overseas signings this season, Vilas will be back for the 50 overs and there will be a core group of 14 players including a few youngsters, obviously no Jones or Lamb. Croft will not feature, he will work alongside the coaching team. Ideally they want another quick bowler and a finger spinning batsman was another thing Chilton came out with. If I think of anything else he said I will post.

What sort of answer was given to your question last night John W? Well Des, first of all I told him that I've been on 4 Test grounds this season, at 3 of them I feel welcomed the only one I don't feel welcome at is my home ground. He asked me why, I told him where do you want me to start and if he had a spare hour as there are so many things wrong with the place. I told him about the unhappiness amongst the Members last Tues and did the hierarchy really care about such unpleasantness caused or weren't they bothered? I then asked if Lancs were aware of the Paul Edwards report, he said they were. I asked if he had any thoughts on it to which he said the club were conducting an investigation into the problem, so he had no thoughts! So I told him my thoughts, as a Life Member it had been one of the most depressing day's I had ever had attending OT, not because of the teams performance but because of the bullies who make decisions then hide behind smoked glass windows, how I as a LM was thoroughly embarrassed by the Edwards report so how would the rest of the Cricinfo readers see Lancashire and OT, would they see it as a welcoming venue (as Lancs like to broadcast) or would they see it as a place to avoid?....will they recognise yet another own goal, God only knows!

Nothing explaining the Lamb selection at Edgbaston?
Chilton admitted he used the wrong choice of words when saying they would be concentrating on committed players, he should have said the outgoing players would only be considered if there was no alternative.. It was a bit of a freak that 2 quick bowlers suddenly picked up injuries on the eve of the game so they decided to go with Lamb. I'm not sure if he raced down the motorway on the morning of the game. He mentioned Jones getting his ton then dropped for the Warks game, saying Bell deserves his chance and hopefully he takes it..Pity they didn't reach the same decision when it came to CDG and Balderson at Blackpool.
