Assuming little or no play today I'd be disappointed if Cricket Australia, or Nanthan Lyon, would want to count this game towards one of the seven. After all it's his workload that matters. This game 1 minute batting and 12 balls so far.

From Lancashire website.
"I hope not” exclaimed Benkenstein when asked if this game counted as one of Nathan Lyon’s seven-game stint. “We have asked the question and hope common sense prevails. Two overs doesn’t constitute a match. But we are waiting to hear back from Cricket Australia.”
Naive to pick him when there was clearly going to be little play.

Last week's washout doesn't count as one of Lyon's seven games, Scott Read has said so on the commentary today. That means he can play seven of the next eight including the current game.

Pity he never got to bowl on a pitch that offered him any real help.Still been a joy to watch at times ,Hopefully he comes back next season.

Agree Happy Larry . I think top class Australians nearly always offer good value and really unfortunate that we couldn’t have a full season.

So goodbye to Gary......in the CC, as you would expect bowled the most overs, 308. Next is Bailey with 210. Averaging 30.38 a wicket which is a bit better than Williams but well ahead of Bailey. Balderson has a similar average but a better strike rate at 49 against Lyon's 71 but as mentioned above Lyon hasn't played played in the conditions best suited for him.
Seems to have enjoyed himself and looked to be in constant conversation with spectators, umpires and players...
Anything further on a replacement for him?

Would he ever get to bowl in conditions that best suit him in the 1st half of an English season?
I know its a while ago but some of you may remember - how did Murali fair when playing for Lancs back in the day?
Can the very best bowlers, (I know I'm talking elite here, of which there may have been very few in reality) make hay on any surface? When I say "any surface" I mean a wicket that is of first class cricket quality, not a pitch that would get reported to the ECB for being poor quality, like that pitch Lancs played on against Essex a few years back. I know its not just the pitch either when we talk about "conditions" we also mean the atmosphere - couldn't a Shane Warne make it turn in overcast conditions?

In Lancs 1999 Season Muralitharan bowled 386.2 overs taking 66 wickets in just 7 games at a strike rate of 35! Amazingly that 66 included 5 10w hauls..so he was in a league of his own. At Southport Lancs had 4 seamers and 3 slow bowlers but on what was still a true batting surface against Notts players playing for a draw they couldn't break through. This is where the argument is made for "result" wickets...
