Spot on, SP. The problem is not that we lack good players but that good players are playing badly. Recruiting more players, except where there's an obvious gap, won't solve this problem because the recruits will soon be absorbed into the negative culture that appears to pervade the dressing room. The only plausible explanation for this state of affairs is that too many players have completely lost confidence in the club's management. Bumble came as near as dammit yesterday to condemning the decision to release Parkinson. If he'd said anymore, he'd have probably been banned from OT for life!

.......condemning the decision to release Parkinson. I thought Parky wanted to leave rather than Lancs released him?Currently 10C here in Manc dread to think what its like at Dunham...all praise to those there...

Well, it looks like the toss on Monday morning was crucial. Bedingham & Ackermann breaking our record partnership in 1st class and in the County Championship passing the 334* scored against Oxford Uni in 1996. In my opinion, I'd be declaring around 480 (lead of around 250) and looking to bowl you out. I imagine it would be a county championship record to have innings defeats in 3 consecutive games.

A 3rd innings defeat on the run looks inevitable. I've seen many poor Lancashire sides over the years, but they have been devoid of basic ability, and if the batting was poor the bowling was OK or vice versa. There are seven good players in this team who are performing nowhere near the ability they've previously shown. I can't recall a team looking so disspirited. Bailey's body-language was appalling. There is quite clearly a disconnect between a large chunk of the players and the management. Whether that management includes the captain is unclear. He's held his own form well, at least until these last two games, and the players seemed to play for him last season, but has he chosen the management or the players? If it's the former that will only be exacerbating the situation and if it's the latter he would normally have been stripped of the captaincy, except that nobody else would probably take the job on. The board will always back the management over the players, so Bumble is probably going to be correct. They'll probably think they can play the youngsters in Div2 and be reasonably competitive, and letting the malcontents go when their contracts expire, or perhaps before that. That solution costs no money. Whatever, an interesting winter awaits. Sadly, I think you’ve nailed it. Lloyd said on commentary yesterday that it was all down to the players, no-one else, which is obvious nonsense, but a reminder that for decades he’s preferred to cuddle up with the powerful people rather than the players. As sillypoint says, this does mean that what he says is likely to be the view of those in charge, so we can be guided accordingly as to what is likely to happen.

As far as I could tell Lancs were delighted to see him go. In the real world he would have had a good case for constructive dismissal.

Notts have been rolled over for 93 which assuming they lose still gives us a chance to salvage our division 1 status from the last two games.

Re Parky: "constructive dismissal" sums it up. He only "wanted" to leave because it had been made clear to him that he had no future at Lancs. Rumours are that the management took sides in a dressing room quarrel...Now we don't have a top class spinner. Hartley is just a poor man's Gary Keedy. Like Hartley, Keedy didn't get much turn but compensated with lots of variation in flight and pace.

In the first game of the 2023 CC season v Surrey Parky took 6 wickets but despite that he was dropped for next game and replaced by Hartley. That seems to be where it all blew up... In the 2022 CC season Parky took 33 wickets (3rd after Bailey 52 and Williams 36) so can't see how Lancs ever thought he couldn't bowl. Unfortunately Lancs have been unable to fill the large gap he left in our bowling attack...

Tell you what though, this bloke Wells could become a genuine all-rounder, if someone could just teach him to bat ….

Anyone any idea what Durham’s thinking would’ve been at the end? They seemed to be just using up they could’ve been bowling at us for no obvious gain when they’re so far ahead and also allowed us to snaffle two extra bowling points which, given they are in theory our relegation zone rival, seemed odd.

Unfortunately I think the players have already checked out this season. Happy to be proven wrong.
Anson should be fired, but won't be. His stewardship of the club has been appalling.
I would be tempted to recruit a replacement captain, maybe from overseas, who would put a firm hand on the tiller for the younger players next season. Keaton is a terrific player, but must bear some of the blame for this seasons debacle. Sometimes a new broom is required.
And as for Chilton and Burkenstein.....
