Blatherwick injured playing for the 2nd XI at Westhoughton today, I don't know what injury it is, he couldn't complete his second over, but could be a cause for concern regarding the forthcoming Warks CC game. With no Jimmy, Hassan, Saqib and Wood he must be under serious contention for that match.

Seconds miss out on a trip to Arundel for their T20 finals day by one point:
Leicestershire won 6 1 nr: pts 13 Nottinghamshire won 4, 2 tied, 2 nr: pts 12 Lancashire won 4, 1 tied, 1nr, 1 abd: pts 11
all played 10 matches
The tied match against Notts proving decisive. Notts scored 10 off the last over (two off the last ball) including a wide early in the over! Karma as Vilas, Salt and Wood all played.

B Walkden, JJ Fielding, CJ Dickinson, GJ Bell*†, KN Watson, SF Mahmood, LJ Hurt, C Barnard, AJ Selby, W Vause, HM Birkman, J O’Sullivan
so still no Aspinwall, Boyden, Lavelle or Hurst. Barnard and O’Sullivan both come through Cheshire age groups.

S Mahmood becomes the latest Academy batsman to score a century at seconds level. 165 not out overnight. Batted practically all day, his first ball was the sixth of the day.
That’s 19 years old Subhaan.

That’s 19 years old Subhaan. Obviously don't know if he gave up any chances but 26 fours in a 394 minute stay at the crease is mighty impressive moreso if that the first time he's batted at no.3 for the seconds, as noticed that it's usually Lavelle @3, Bell @4, then Mahmood coming in @5 or 6.

As you say, no idea how chanceless it was but his record is a bit up and down in the seconds: But this is only his 8th game: Debut v Durham in Aug 21: 42 at no. 5, and 55 opening in second innings. v Yorkshire following week: 9 opening and 3* down at 7 in the 2nd innings. v Durham in Sept 21: 0 & 24 opening This year has been batting lower down 23 at 7 (Hurst scored a century at 6) v Leicestershire 29 & 9 at 6 and 7 (Bell scored a century at 5) v Glamorgan 26 at 6 v Yorkshire 0 & 4 v Middlesex batting at 7 & 8! (Morley opened as a Night Watchman)
Bell, Hurst and Lavelle have all scored centuries this year in the 2nds championship. Hurst and Mahmood clearly the youngest.

Thanks for the detailed reply, really appreciate that. It may have always happened to some extent but I've noticed more over the last few years that the seconds often have bowlers that would normally bat 9-11 when in the first team up as high as 5 or 6 in the seconds, remember seeing Hartley at 5 and Hurt at 6 in one game last season for example so when I saw S Mahmood batting at 5/6 or higher towards the end of last season I just presumed it was Saqib. And the fact i'd bookmarked the Academy intake for this season from the official web page and seen the name Subhaan Mahmood for the first time before the season started but I didn't twig then, or when I wrote my post above that it was probably him, and not Saqib batting so high for the seconds the previous season, the fact he didn't open the bowling should have been another clue it wasn't Saqib. I'm sure i'm getting dafter with age. See SJ Mahmood ran out of partners and was left 9 short of a double century having batted for 10 minutes shy of 8 hours in the first innings, and scored 28 in the second as Lancashire were bowled out for 216 on the last day to lose by 177 runs.

still no Matthew Hurst, who has been playing for Leigh every week. Hasn’t played for Lancs seconds since mid April (two matches scored: 101 and 58*) and then disappeared fom the scene, despite being in the Academy. Would possibly be behind Salt, Vilas, Buttler, Lavelle, Bell etc.. Is 18 could be prioritising exams.
