“I've been watching the Wiltshire vs Glos match and imagine my surprise when they mention the village where I grew up, Rainford near St Helens who are playing Dumbleton from near Cheltenham in the national village cup semi final today to see who gets to play at Lords.” I often watch Rainford on Saturdays , mickeyg but a bit too much to do at home today. Listening on here. livesportsfm.co.uk/player.aspx?fbclid=IwAR2ReuozxiBUEWnMvRAeqkzr657rHqBWYgV222ibqY1QiuxRzgrhe-KFmkYI was surprised to see on their schedule they have a 1st, 2nd and 3rd 11's. Club cricket must be really popular.

Not sure how it compares at Rainford Mickey but I know overall participation levels have dropped dramatically since 2005.
Sadly no Lord’s for Rainford ; would have gone to that.

Start at 3.15pm....Lancs lost toss! batting....23 overs per side.... They managed 22 overs per side. After a brutal opening principally by Luke Wells 36 from 17 balls and later by Danny Lamb (who did not field due to a tight back) 50 from 33 balls, Lancs were held a little in check by Matty Siddall 2/24 from 5 overs and Ben Walkden 2/34 from his 5 overs. In reply JJ Fielding top scored with a fluent 42 from 30 followed by Ben Walkden with a run a ball 30. Some fairly impressive diving catching by Lancs, whereas Cumbria dropped a couple of hard running/diving chances.
Lancs probably happy with their 1st XI warm up, but looking longer term they hopefully will have noted: JJ Fielding & Ben Walkden (Lancs Academy) both impressed (figures above) as did 17 year old spinner Josh Stirling (Lancs u18s and 1 game the 2s) 1/35 from 4 overs, opening the bowling in the power play and 18 year old Evan Williams (Lancs u18s) opening the batting scoring 20
Cumbria’s players average age was 20.5 years compared with Lancs 24.5

Just read on the St.Helens Star website that there was a shooting today (Sunday) in Rainford at the Golden Lion pub, which the cricket field is behind. At around 4pm, so the cricket was probably still going on while this happened.

The weather looks better pm but any play may depend on how the ground handles the heavy rain overnight and morning...

“Just read on the St.Helens Star website that there was a shooting today (Sunday) in Rainford at the Golden Lion pub, which the cricket field is behind. At around 4pm, so the cricket was probably still going on while this happened.” Umpires took them off for 45 mins. Ground was closed off for an hour and a half I believe so none of the 250 crowd could leave. The shooting was in garden outside at a Christening party, thought to be targeted.

ETA: "The covers have been partially removed and we are told it is extremely wet underneath.” Underneath where the covers were?
