Absolutely. The pitch has flattened out and there's nothing for the bowlers. In truth, we lost our chance of a win by failing to bat properly in the first innings. Unlike Essex, who in the main had to be got out, we gave away half of our wickets. Still, early days...

Really need a win at Somerset if we are to challenge for the league this year. Pity we only play middlesex once this year, they seem to be the whipping boys of the division.

Last two comments beat me to saying that. Somerset look a shambles at present . Craig Overton and Josh Davey both appear to be injured.
Agree it is a lousy system without playing everyone equal number of times. The competition has no integrity now . I’d like to think the two men now at the head of ECB will have the integrity which has been lacking for over a decade but we will see. Glad we managed our win in 2011 . Really don’t care till it is restored to that system.

Yes - don't want to be playing catch-up. On the plus side, we have played two of the strongest contenders without conceding anything serious. Against Surrey we fielded an under-strength bowling attack so couldn't take full advantage of winning the toss. Coming out of the game just 3 points down wasn't a bad result in the circumstances. However, we should have done better against Essex but wrecked our chances by batting poorly in the first innings. If we'd got 300 or so, as we should have done, we'd have been able to have them batting to save the game at the start of yesterday and would have had a good chance of bowling them out. If the team is under orders to bat aggressively from the start of the first innings, it isn't working.
I agree with others that the CC lacks integrity when we don't get to play everyone twice. With ten teams in the division we should be playing 18 games, not 14.

Can't recall were I heard this but the three sides in Division 1 last season played each other once I think that was Lancs, Hants and Surrey........IIRC it was the Counties who wanted 10 teams in Div 1...Just over a day was lost to the weather which made a result difficult. We needed Hartley for his batting but I think Parky might have been more effective with his bowling..
