Not the best of live streams...Good morning for Lancs, taking four wickets on what looks a pretty good pitch (from 150 miles away). Glad to see Balderson get a game, although TKK took a liking to him. I agree that Parkinson is a better bowler than Hartley but he's not much of a batter. Also, with the T20 being early this year, it probably makes more sense to have Parkinson playing in the 2nds, where there's less pressure to keep it tight and where he'll probably get a lot more overs under his belt.

But not a good afternoon. Putting the opposition in on a flat, easy paced pitch no longer looking a good decision. This will be the third match on the trot in which our good new ball bowling has taken early wickets on a good pitch only for the lack of back-up to give the advantage away.

I think Hartley is getting picked for his batting to make the side more balanced. I'm sure you're right meanwhile elsewhere -.@mattyparky96 took 5/41 to help bowl Worcestershire out for 223 and put us in charge of our Second XI Championship match at Kidderminster. He has taken 5-46 in the second innings to help us to a 5 wicket win. Not to mention his five for against Surrey in the opening championship game. To get into the first eleven does he need the 3rd and 4th seamers to be two of CDG, Balderson, Wood or Lamb?

311-4 close think Somerset days Abell and Rew centuries seem to remember Rew got a decent score at Southport last season

Very much Somerset's day given that we took no wickets at all between lunch and the close. Best we can hope for now is a high scoring draw.

Not sure it was a bad decision to insert ; fine margins and all that and could easily have had two more wickets if one of a fair number of play and misses had touched the edge. Had that happened , I suspect it would be looking a great decision now.
The Somerset fans I sat with were as surprised as I was at our use of a deep square leg for so much of the day to Anderson , Mahmood and Bailey even with the second new ball. That was true at both ends and to both left and right handers. We weren’t trying to get wickets with short deliveries .Thought there was a lack of intensity with second new ball but credit to Abell and Rew.
General agreement that a special place should be reserved in hell for whoever designed Somerset’s ticketing system.

Had that happened , I suspect it would be looking a great decision now. Fair comment, Des, and, although six would have been great, four down at lunch did look enough to justify the decision. The problem is that a pattern seems to be emerging. I know that sides bat deep these days and often recover from a bad start but our change bowling has seemed to lack penetration. Hopefully, having survived 18 overs - very economical too - Mahmood will start to take wickets. The others all seem to need too much assistance from the pitch and our excellent new ball bowling gets negated.

“Armbands again” Godfather of one of the players according to the steward near me Update ; Somerset Forum says Josh Bohannon Those two centuries were a pleasure to watch and that would have been the case even if I didn’t have a lot of affection for Somerset cricket. I would sooner have watched them than watch Bazball any day. Would love to see one from Josh Bohannon now; not especially because of above news but I’ve always been a fan ever since I first saw him play for Southport 10 years or so ago.

Reasonable start with the bat, but with rain coming later on in the game looks like the best Lancs can hope for would be another draw.
