Who filled in as captain when Jennings was out during the Somerset 2nd innings? Is Vilas worth keeping around for his experience, not just overall but also as a captain/leader? Vilas filled in.

I'm surprised at the criticism of Parky's fielding. He's never going to be a gun fielder but he doesn't stand out as hopeless: he seems to cover the ground quickly in the deep, decent arm and fields the ball cleanly enough. Ideally from a coach's perspective everyone would be a "three dimensional" cricketer but that's not realistic is it? Are the old guard of our middle order, Croft and Vilas, going over the hill? Mitchell should more than plug the gap, when is he due? Jennings will leave a massive hole in the batting if he's out injured, agree that Baldy is probably most likely reserve opener. Wonder if Rob Jones is close to a recall? He did alright last season. Mitchell is expected to be available for the Somerset CC game OE.

Two five wicket hauls for Parky in seconds. Heard on grapevine ( and not via Dave Snellgrove but reliable source ) that he’s been told he’s got to improve his fielding which partly supports my allrounder point.
Interesting about Parky. Is his fielding that bad? He's not Jonty Rhodes but there again he's not a Jack Simmons either.
A couple of our internationals didn't cover themselves in glory today with their catching ability.
........Indeed....Parky is there for his bowling. I've no doubt that he would have been more of a challenge to Somerset than Hartley has been. I'm sure he is trying his best but so far this season Hartley has bowled 43 overs for one wicket...

It looked like Vilas was skipper in Jennings' absence. I had thought Bohannon was VC but may have got that wrong, has Tom Bailey captained us at all in the past? I don't think we know the extent of Jennings injury. I understand it's his hamstring so the length of absence, if at all, will depend on what grade of tear he's experienced. Footballers can come back from these injuries fairly quickly if they are low grade but there's a risk in players coming back too soon that they aggravate the injury. I would imagine a batsman might come back more quickly than a bowler/footballer but that might be ignorance on my part. Regardless of injury he may well be considered next cab off the rank of potential England openers. Given the ferocity of the Australian attack it's highly likely that rank will be called upon. So it's highly likely we'll miss Keaton for a championship game or two and some T20 too. I don't know if Dane is the right man to stand in if Keaton is missing? If Bohannon and Bailey are part of the leadership cadre there may be an issue in T20 as neither is a shoe in for that format. Unless Vilas gets some championship runs his place may well come under pressure.

That's a good point. Was thinking during the Somerset match that Vilas might miss out. However, this may be misplaced BUT I would rather we played Baldy than CDG. George is already the better bowler for me and, as they like to say this season, he has a high ceiling in respect of his all round potential

I think that CDG will be useful in the T20 but not convinced about him as red ball player.
