A lot tighter in the end than it should have been but a win is a win!

It was always going to be fairly tight because (a) batting second at Edgbaston is tricky because the ball stops coming on to the bat and (b) our errors in the field gifted them far more runs than they should have had. I can see why Croft decided to field because there was a bit of moisture in the pitch at the start and it was going to dry out to be a real shirt front but really we should have restricted them to 160 max. We looked a bit rusty in the field, mostly doing well but making two costly errors: a poor throw from the boundary prevented a certain run-out when both batters were at the same end; a dolly catch was dropped when two fielders left it to each other. There was another dolly drop but it only cost two runs and a very difficult catch was also dropped.
Wood was the pick of our bowlers with Bailey also doing well. Mitchell and Lamb were ok, with Lamb being a bit up and down. There was absolutely nothing in the pitch for the spinners on either side and they all got hammered. Presumably CDG was unfit to bowl.
When we batted our tactics were spot on. You have to get well ahead of the rate at Edgbaston because scoring in the last six overs of the second innings is difficult. Wells set the tone and we got the rate down to fives for the last six overs. Bell couldn't get on strike and eventually top edged a cross batted swipe. Croft ran himself out, turning blind for a run that wasn't there. I left when it was obvious that we were going to win.
On the whole I think we can be pleased with what might have been a "banana skin" match but we need to tighten up in the field.

wasn't expecting that and without Jennings, Salt, Mahmood, Livingstone and even Buttler. Doubt Derbyshire can say the same. Only managed to listen to (some of) the Derby innings via Radio Derbyshire (Dave Fletcher must be one of my fav commentators). "Parkinson .... perfect example of bowler ruined by England" ... "There's going to be a run out .... no there isn't ... there would have been if the throw had been anything like near" well along those lines.
Seems we dropped some catches and missed a run out. Being not out at the end on a win is fine, being not out at the end when losing by a close margin is not a place to be. At least we aren't trying to ruin Bohannon in this format.

You'd think after the poor IPL's win wise that Salt, Livingstone and Buttler have had they would want to try and win something with Lancs.

Buttler only played one T20 for Lancs last season - at NewRoad - and may as well not have been there (although tbf that goes for the rest of the team too). Today was only the second time I have seen Lancs win an away game against Derbyshire so I suppose it's a bonus of sorts.

Why was the game at Edgbaston and where was Vilas?
Batter and Bowler light at the moment if we are to beat the big boys in the group. Jennings and A Mahmood, Gleeson badly needed. Derbyshire should imagine be amongst the dead men come end of the blast.
Any chance Salt returns? No idea how IPL works with players.

To answer the venue question sadly it's the way it's going to go TV gets what TV wants, suspect this double header concept will in future become the norm, with the snmaller counties playing their home games at Big venues

Stinks really, fans the last to be thought about. Derbyshire fans not only are you losing a home game on a Saturday afternoon but home advantage to get a result. Why can’t sky put on a game from Derby’s ground? They seem to go smaller grounds like Kent and Somerset previously.
