With the T20s starting on Saturday, I was thinking about the team we would start with at Edgbaston. The selection is quite challenging with Jennings injured, Salt, Livingstone and Butler still on IPL duty, we are short of batsmen particularly openers with proven T20 experience. The XI I came up with was:
Wells, Hartley, Mitchell, Croft, Vilas, Bell, Wood, Lamb, Gleeson, Mahmood, Parkinson.
This eleven is light on batting but I have never seen Bohannon or Jones play a decent T20 innings. Maybe Bohannon deserves a chance since he is one of our few batsmen in good nick.

Most successful teams do go light on batting now, it's usually 4 batsmen including a wicket-keeper batsman, 5 allrounders that can all slap a rapid 35+ on any given day, and then 2 death bowlers.
Still waiting for somebody to come up with the bright idea of playing a keeper and 10 allrounders.
Is CdG injured?

I don't think he is injured and I think he is better suited to T20 than red ball cricket. You can only play two overseas so I think it is a choice of Vilas or CDG.

Jennings' injury and selecting Vilas as captain for the Somerset match might be part of that decision. If Jennings had played against Somerset would Vilas?

In regards T20 if CDG is fit and Vilas will always play is Mitchell just a red ball player? I think he is quality and we will get more from him than CDG.

I would pick Mitchell in all formats he is a class player and currently in good form as he showed on Saturday. I see CDG as a T20 player. I think we need Vilas in the T20 side at the moment due to the shortage of specialist batsmen. Our best T20 top three are playing in the IPL at the moment. As far as the captaincy goes I am a believer in picking your best 11 and then selecting your captain. Vilas, Croft and Bailey have all captained the first XI. Bohannon could be another option.

CDG tough to leave out, as well as the fearsome hitting he's a clever bowler in T20 and a really good fielder. I like Danny Lamb but he went round the park a few times last season. If Gleeson is injured we're in trouble.
Hopefully this is the season where Josh Bohannon comes good in that run a ball, hold the innings together from three role.

Gleeson was on the pitch at the lunch interval for at least 2 day's of the Somerset CC game though he seemed to be in the area of C stand with one of the fitness coaches. Wood and Blatherwick were doing a bit of bowling on the strip under the watchful eye of our Head Coach but I didn't notice Gleeson with them.

For what it's worth, he hasn't played for Blackpool yet this season. Would normally expect him to do so in order to test his fitness with his club first. The wrist surgery was only in March.

Richard Gleeson not included in the squad for tomorrow's second XI double header with Derbyshire so probably still recovering from surgery as Chris's post above. I can't spot anyone else likely to play in the T20s to be missing.
Tom Aspinwall, Tom Bailey, George Balderson, George Bell, Jack Blatherwick, Josh Bohannon, Steven Croft, Colin De Grandhomme, Tom Hartley, Rob Jones, Danny Lamb, George Lavelle, Saqib Mahmood, Daryl Mitchell, Matt Parkinson, Dane Vilas, Luke Wells, Will Williams, Luke Wood

If they had included those three they could have played two separate XIs. I guess they wanted to cover themselves if someone is out first ball, they will no doubt get a second chance in the second game. If anything surprised about Morley being omitted, there is no spin cover as Wells, Hartley and Parkinson will play all games available. Can't see Balderson, Blatherwick, Williams, Aspinwall, Bailey getting near the 1st XI for a T20 without others being injured. But Bailey at least will be the squads of 14 as cover.

14 man squad named for Edgbaston. Vilas named as captain so looks like either Mitchell or CDG will miss out. Website confirms that Gleeson and Jennings both recovering from injury.
Dane Vilas (c), Tom Bailey, George Bell, Josh Bohannon, Steven Croft, Colin de Grandhomme, Tom Hartley, Rob Jones, Danny Lamb, Saqib Mahmood, Daryl Mitchell, Matt Parkinson, Luke Wells, Luke Wood
