Australia 386 (Khawaja 141, Carey 66, Head 50) and 282 for 8 (Khawaja 65) beat England 393 for 8 declared (Root 118, Bairstow 78, Crawley 61, Lyon 4-149) and 273 (Cummins 4-63, Lyon 4-80) by two wickets
Just think if we had scored an extra 50 rus in the first innings and had more application in the second we would not have lost the game.
Australia played the traditional way in their second knock and duly won the game

Also England's bowling attack was weakened..players who would have been picked injured e.g. Archer.....Moeen out of practice, and injured in the match,...Stokes only able to bowl a few overs and and lack of movement meant Jimmy was ineffective - 38 overs for 1 wicket..
Still an exciting match....

Tongue to play his second test amid strong rumours he's leaving Worcs for Old Trafford. So another injury prone quick might be keeping Boyden, Mahmood and Blatherwick company on the physio couches next year.
Replacement for Lamb rather than Parkinson, presumably.

From the England point of view, it depends how much they want someone to go for 2 an over even if they don't take many wickets.

I’ve written Jimmy off before but he does look much reduced since the recent injury. It does take longer and longer to recover whatever your core fitness as you get older.
I know I’ve mentioned this recently but after he took some hammer in the Ashes which followed his triumph in 2010/11 , I wrote him off when I saw Riki Wessels bash him around Trent Bridge in a 4 day game a few months after so what do I know! Not sure whether that was 13 or 14 ; probably 14.

Not sure whether England weren't playing kamikaze cricket yesterday. Some excuse for Dukcett as he neared his century but bazball seems to have clouded Root's mind as well.
I wonder about Jimmy also; if Wood is scheduled for the next test will the seamer line up then be just Broad, Tongue and Wood?
