More than just a (metaphorical) flag that's been missing, MITS! Conceding a substantial lead to a side that was 50 behind with one wicket left looks really bad but tbh we only had them 9 down because of their own overconfidence and not because of our superior play. You could say that the balance has now been restored. What I don't understand is why we thought that the seam attack we chose for an away game against a side that had already won 5 out of 7 was remotely adequate. Worse, I can't think of anyone who should have played instead, apart from perhaps Luke Wood. And I guess playing Morley is an unannounced admission that the Hartley experiment has maybe failed. Parkinson being replaced by Hartley after taking a five for. Then Hartley replaced by Morley after the announcement that Parky is leaving makes me think the "Hartley experiment" was more about Parky. The phrase "managing out of the organisation" springs to mind.

I generally think these things are more cock up than conspiracy. Our tail did need strengthening when Hartley was brought in, although one might still disagree with dropping Parky.
I suspect Hartley has suffered from adjusting to the different lengths required in white ball after playing red ball which may account for him being left out at the Oval.
Ironically his batting and a few flat darts in the blockhole might have come in useful on this pitch.

It is an extraordinarily good Surrey team and for that reason, I agreed with Exile when he said we needed early wickets after the first day despite the apparently good score.

Agree about Salt's good attitude but he seems to be much more at home in proper cricket than in T20. We certainly need him now as Mitchell has finally lost patience and holed out. He will think himself unlucky that 9 times out of 10 the fielder would not have pulled off such a stunning catch but he still shouldn't have played the shot in the match situation. That's three of our top order batsmen who haven't been able to contain themselves when faced with relentlessly accurate seam bowling.

Rare positive note from me, but what a great pro Will Williams is . We’d be in an absolute mess without him at present . I mean principally as a bowler but he always gives his best. Not in favour of his type of signing generally re age and other criteria but he certainly gives great value. He will probably be out as I type this.

Yes: great attitude, showed Bohannon, Wells and Mitchell how you need to play in this situation and made his highest ever 1st class score. Burns's stunning catch reminded me of Gary Keedy's running out of Hussein in 2011. I don't think Keedy had ever done this before but when a side has momentum, difficult catches stick, throws hit the stumps and the tail wags. Of course, the reverse is true, which is partly why we are losing this match (still hoping we won't, of course but it's long odds).

Fair play to Williams getting a 50 against this attack on its own pitch.

Well I hope you are happy now offering Surrey hope, 99% of neutrals would have said with Surrey's best four batsmen already in the shed and Surrey still 204 runs behind Lancashire were well on top. Well they would have been wrong, as subsequent events showed and I'm not at all happy that it's 95% likely that we are going to come out of this match with just 3 points and all hope of catching Surrey completely gone. Instead of building on two really good seasons in the CC, we have gone backwards and relegation, although unlikely, is not out of the question.Yes, but they wouldn't have been wrong at the time though would they? And it took the last pair adding 130 which probably only happens once or twice a decade to turn the match firmly in Surrey's favour.
All's not lost, get to 200 ahead and it's game on, or it might rain!

208 for Surrey to win. Had that last wicket partnership been a more regular 10 or 20 we could have had an interesting finish.
Or maybe not given they chased down 500 the other week.

Butterfingers, you're not taking into account the comparative strengths and weaknesses of the two sides. Your argument would be fine if were playing Northants or even Notts but we're playing a side that has won 5 out of 7 matches and has just chased down 500+ to win a match. Short of a miracle, I don't see how we are going to bowl them out before they get to 208 when our back-up bowling leaks runs and there doesn't seem to be anything in the pitch for Morley. They can just take their time until Bailey and Williams are tired and then win before lunch tomorrow. I think if we were going to give them 120 overs in which to chase a total we would have needed to set them at least 400. Still "hope springs eternal..."

Surrey 3-0(7 overs), obviously playing for a draw ....
