I was very pleased to see many of the comments on this forum about the shoddy treatment afforded to spectators by the club on Tues (25th). I became exasperated by the fact that none of the stewards were able to explain why we were not allowed to sit in many areas of the ground. I thought the club had relented a little when I saw some people at he front of the small stand to the right of the members stand, so I moved there, but was told by a steward that I could not sit there. Again no explanation was forthcoming as to why I could not sit there. Sadly, I allowed my emotions to get the better of me and responded with a Nazi salute and the words "ZEIG HEIl" Later, another steward approached me and invited me to discuss the matter with himself and the steward in question. This steward actually stated that he was "only obeying orders", I explained that this was precisely the excuse that German soldiers used to explain atrocities committed during World War 2. I pointed out that this admission by the steward vindicated my gesture, and demonstrated that it was appropriate rather than disrespectful. Following this, they insisted that I leave the ground, and I was escorted out by 3 stewards. I am 71 years of age, and watched my first match at Old Trafford 59 years ago. I suspect I will never visit Old Trafford again. John that is disgusting treatment. I know it may be fruitless but have you not considered emailing the new Members rep Chris Peacock with your awful experience?

I will be writing to Chris Peacock and the MRG about the "kettling". The only reason I can think of why so little of the ground was open was a lack of stewards...

Welcome to the forum, John and also the others who have joined recently. There is a bit of disenchantment with the club to say the least

Good to see you back on a Forum John but sorry to hear of your experience. Spoke to a normally very mild man at Rainford today who was still fuming about it ; I’ve never seen him like that.

Thanks to all (especially my old friend Des) who have responded to my post. I cannot get away from the impression that LCCC has a similar attitude to spectators as, Basil Fawlty has to the guests at Fawlty Towers! At best we are an irritant, at worst we are scum that needs to be discouraged from ever visiting again. I am unable to identify any aspect of the way the management conducted affairs on Tues 25th July which would lead to a first time visitor feeling welcomed, and wanting to return! I have to confess that this absolutely infuriated me. I like to watch cricket from where I choose, not from where I am told I am allowed to observe from. I thought we had won this battle against being imprisoned in small sections of the ground about ten years ago, as well as being allowed onto the playing area. Obviously, this was only a temporary victory! Clearly those who want to exercise control over our right to make our own decisions are back in the ascendency!

Think cash, banks, gambling etc and an education system that teaches kids what to think rather than how to think. We live in dark and dangerous times.

Completely agree SP. I remember about 12 years ago hearing Gove saying he was thinking of removing “critical thinking” from the curriculum . I’m not sure how far that went but it was a shameful thing for an education secretary to say. I’m not making a political point of this because I think the Labour front bench have broadly the same philosophy of keeping the proles in order and keeping the rich rich , by lies if necessary. Both the ECB and Lancs have very much reflected that culture in recent years though I hope for a bit better from the ECB now.

Normally in a CC Game, when B or C stand are in use, both the ground and upper levels are open. But at one CC game earlier this season the upper level was closed...perhaps a forecast of what happened at the Northants game.

Off to the reverse fixture for a couple of days beginning of September. First visit to Wantage Rd. Anybody recommend a decent pub or two near the ground?

It’s about seven or eight years since I went to Northampton and can’t remember the pubs but I can remember having some enjoyable beer there with Oldham Exile in the town. A lot could have changed this since of course. You may know if you like real ale but try putting the ground’s postcode into this site. whatpub.com/I really enjoyed both my visits to Northampton. The ground at one time had a reputation of being one of the least pleasant but it has improved vastly and the supporters were friendly. On the Somerset fans forum they reported the same recently though they did say the attendance was very low.

Thanks Des,to be honest I don't mind a sparse crowd, less queueing time for food and drink and Chilton will be able to hear my cries for him to resign!(joking..ish)

Red Rose Fans may be interested to know that I received yesterday an email with a letter in PDF format from Mr Lee Morgan Club Secretary requesting that I apologise to stewarding staff or have my membership suspended. Unfortunately, I do not know how to copy the text of a PDF document, so I cannot copy the whole letter here, but I am happy to send the PDF (and my reply) to anyone who contacts me on crittenjohn@outlook.com

Response re the kettling -
Both the MRG and I have received a number of emails about this issue during the Northants game. After raising it with the Club, we understand that there were a number of factors which led to only the Pavilion Terrace and A Stand being opened, including de-rigging following the Ashes Test and the desire to showcase the opening of the new development and The Edge restaurant which many of you enjoyed for the first time.
I have been encouraged at how the Club has been receptive to the comments of Members and the positive approach that has been taken to act. I’m pleased to let Members know that following your comments, the Club will ensure that moving forward there will be at least part of Stands A or E open, with raised viewing in either Upper B or C dependant on the wicket, to ensure a positive experience for our Members and supporters.
Not convinced by the de-rigging reason certainly in respect with to E stand where I saw nothing like that happening. Also the "at least part of Stands A or E open" sounds ominous - usually all E open. We will see what happens at the next CC game.
