Fair play to Morley taking 2 wickets.

Bailey bowling off spin, think I would give Wells a few overs.

Lancs would probably be ok seam bowler wise when you take into account Anderson available at the beginning of the season usually, a fit Mahmood and if Wood plays regularly. Add those 3 to Bailey, Williams and Balderson and it doesn't look in bad shape. This year we had CdH and Mitchell for a spell who bowled as well as batted. Then Blatherwick was added to the mix. It just seems the way things have fallen with injuries, Anderson and Wood not playing much and the 2 Kiwis leaving at about the same time, 2 thirds into the CC season, we left ourselves short. Then of course not having a spinner that can take enough wickets doesn't help. Should management have known this? Well yeah, they knew what Anderson and Wood would be doing as well as the overseas players. Only Mahmood and what happened with Parky could be unforeseen at the start of the season. I think you're being a bit kind to Lancs, Mickey! It's not exactly news that Mahmood is prone to injury and they chose to get rid of Parky (has any other bowler this season taken five wickets in the second innings at OT?)

Kent radio commentator did suggest that substitutes could be used similar to football, my reply to that is unprintable

Bailey bowling off spin, think I would give Wells a few overs. Given what Wells did at Northants a few weeks ago it is odd Jennings apparent reluctance to give him much of a look in since. Turning pitch here too.

The IPL did it this year as well.
Yes it was in ODIs for a bit as well. They often used Vikram Solanki as he was a good fielder.

Not too kind Exile, I did say they should have known this as the schedules of Anderson, Wood, de Grandhomme and Mitchell were known.

Given the fact we may only bowl once could be a wasted journey

Lancs second best in this game - not surprising as they have nothing to play for while Kent are scrapping to avoid relegation. In hindsight, batting first doesn't look a great decision as the pitch has completely flattened out, the turn is less than predicted and what turn there is has mostly been negated by the lack of pace and bounce. Looks like Parky will get the chance next season to make Lancs regret their treatment of him.

Kent radio commentator did suggest that substitutes could be used similar to football, my reply to that is unprintable They are suggesting they are already optional.
To my mind once they were nominated to play in the second half of the game they should play in the second half of the game. That was your chosen 12 at the toss. If Crawley is ill or injured too bad. Before this craziness of substitutes if a player was nominated at the toss he plays. End of. If they get ill they rise up from their hospital bed like Eddie Paynter did. If it was Muyeye who was ill not Crawley, would the ECB allow Crawley to replace him not Compton?
By the same token Hartley should play tomorrow morning. No option. No Williams. Lancs can try and take 6 wickets with Morley, Balderson, Wells and Hartley plus a semi fit Bailey who I have read is limping. That way they may realise that they need an overseas bowler not a batsman.

Just realised that Bohannon has passed 1,000 1st class runs for the season. Strong candidate for player of the season... Pity Singh wasn't played for Croft...Croft's place presumably to be filled by the proposed oversea's signing... Bohannon has 1189 now, more than anyone else in Division One

It all seems a very damp squib end to the season and the game completely losing its integrity with all this substitution nonsense . Little of encouragement for the future either . Yes, Hurst seems to have lots of talent but I really don’t trust Lancs any more to develop any talent properly. He was also a very “gobby” individual in his young days ( cf Alex Davies) so will Lancs be able to control that and turn him into an unquestioning,” on message “ man as is expected?
On the Somerset forum last week, they thought that Kent were one of the weakest teams seen at Taunton for years so not sure what that says about us , or in particular our professionalism in a game that affects Middlesex too. I never forget that the professionalism of Hants in what was a dead game in 2011 helped us to deservedly win the title ; we may not have been the best team but the performances and team spirit deserved it. Deserved on that year but not deserved on our history of collapsing like a pack of cards to Notts in 2010.
Grim days ahead for the county and the game ; a microcosm of the country I fear. Still have a bit of hope that the people at the top of the ECB may be able to turn the tide in first class cricket but maybe they will disappoint me as much as a certain modern politician about whom a comedian said last week “ The genius of X is he says nothing one week and goes back on it the next”. Too many ambitious people in all strands of life completely lacking substance and integrity.
