WORCESTERSHIRE
Former Worcestershire captain Joe Leach has extended his contract with the club to the end of the 2025 season.
The 33-year-old all-rounder's previous deal was due to expire this summer.
Leach took his 450th first-class wicket in 2023 as the Pears won promotion to County Championship Division One, finishing second behind Durham.
"It's a new era at the club, and to have the opportunity to contribute for at least the next couple of years is really exciting," he said.
"I've still got goals to achieve, and this club means a lot to me. It's pretty obvious I'm now going to be a one-club man."
Leach made his Worcestershire debut in 2012 and skippered the side for five years, and leading them to a previous promotion in 2017.
He was their leading wicket-taker in the Championship last summer with 48 victims, and has also scored 3,821 first-class runs, including two centuries and 23 fifties.
Head coach Alan Richardson described him as "a team man first and foremost, prepared to put in a massive shift".
He added: "What a tremendous career he has had and what a superb performer for more than ten years for Worcestershire who fully deserves this year's testimonial."
NORTHAMPTONSHIRE
ndian international batter Karun Nair has re-joined Northamptonshire for the 2024 season.
Nair returns to Wantage Road following a three-match spell at the club towards the end of last year.
The 32-year-old scored 249 innings for the club last season, including a stunning 150 against Surrey.
"I'm thrilled to be returning to Northamptonshire," Nair said.
He added to the club website: "Our aim is to win games and get promoted and I'm excited to get stuck in with the bat and help the team secure victories.
"I would like to thank the coach and captain for believing in me and giving me this wonderful opportunity.
"I was really happy with my form last season and hopefully I can get going right away and put big runs on the board."
Nair became only the second India batter to score a triple century in Test cricket, back in 2016, hitting 303 not out against England in Chennai.
Northamptonshire head coach John Sadler has shared his delight at bringing back a player of Nair's quality to the club.
He said: "Because of the impact Karun had with us last season, he was always our main target to get back with us this season.
"Not only did he score some incredible runs for us, his calmness, his temperament, and his hunger for more runs was superb.
"We are delighted to get him on board with us again and I'm sure he will be a super asset for us again this season"
Nair is contracted to play the first seven County Championship games for Northamptonshire.

WORCESTERSHIRE
Worcestershire have signed all-rounder Josh Cobb on a white-ball deal for the 2024 season.
The 33-year-old left Northamptonshire earlier this month after playing more than 200 games for the club.
Cobb was named man of the match for the Steelbacks after scoring 80 when they won the T20 Blast in 2016.
"The club has always been a well-drilled white-ball unit, and I hope to bring my A game to New Road and assist in challenging for trophies," he said.
"I would like to thank [chief executive] Ashley Giles for giving me this fresh opportunity to once again do what I love - play exciting cricket and win trophies."
Cobb, who began his career at Leicestershire, has scored almost 4,000 T20 runs and 3,330 in List A cricket, including seven centuries.
He has captained Welsh Fire in The Hundred and also played T20 games in Bangladesh.
"Josh's experience and skills align perfectly with our plans for the upcoming season," said Giles.
"He's a highly experienced white-ball cricketer, who's tasted regular success. He will fit into the dressing room well, and will really add to the group."
Cobb follows another former Northamptonshire player, Tom Taylor, to New Road for the new season.
Worcestershire captain Brett D'Oliveira has agreed a new contract to run until the end of the 2027 season.
The 31-year-old led the Pears to promotion from Division Two of the County Championship last summer.
He has scored more than 5,000 runs in first-class cricket and over 3,500 in white-ball formats.
"Going into Division One presents a different, tougher challenge, but one I know the group are looking forward to, and so am I," he said.
"I still feel 18, probably the biggest kid within the group, and that banter and being with the boys, I still absolutely love it.
"I've got so much more to give, and so many more years to play hopefully, and let's just concentrate on these four years, but hopefully there is a bit more after that as well."
D'Oliveira, the grandson of Worcestershire and England legend Basil, has played more than 300 matches for the county since his first-team debut in 2011.
"His influence extends beyond the field, bringing enthusiasm, energy, and leadership to the team. He's a vital player for us, especially as we face the challenges of Division One cricket," said head coach Alan Richardson.
Bowler Yadvinder Singh has signed a professional contract with Worcestershire, making him the second player from the South Asian Cricket Academy to sign a professional deal.
Singh, 28, follows in the footsteps of fellow-pear Kashif Ali, who became the first player from the South Asian Cricket Academy to earn a contract with a first-class county in 2022.
The pace bowler had played Second XI cricket for Worcestershire as well as Warwickshire and four other counties.
"It's a dream come true," Singh told the club website.
"I'm really pleased that Worcestershire are showing this trust in me by giving me a contract. I've been trialling around for several years with different counties, playing Seconds cricket and club cricket in between going back home to India.
"But I never gave up hope. Since I can remember, I always had a dream that I wanted to be a professional cricketer.
"There was no Plan B. I knew in myself that I could do this, that I could play and now I've got to try and make the most of this opportunity."
Last season, Singh took 39 wickets with an average of 16.10 for Moseley, which claimed the Birmingham and District League Premier Division One title.
After impressing in a trial period, Worcestershire signed him up before other interested counties. The club's chief executive Ashley Giles said he is delighted to have him on board.
"We are thrilled to have Yadvinder Singh join us. His path to professional cricket is truly inspiring," he said.
"Yadvinder's skills and unwavering dedication are in perfect alignment with our mission of embracing diverse talents. He is undoubtedly a valuable addition to our squad."
NORTHAMPTONSHIRE
Northamptonshire wicketkeeper Lewis McManus has extended his contract until the end of the 2025 season.
The 29-year-old had a difficult summer in 2023, scoring only 185 runs in 11 Championship appearances as Northants were relegated from Division One.
He joined the club from Hampshire in 2022 and has taken 257 catches in all formats during his career.
"After a frustrating season last year, I'm feeling really optimistic about the upcoming campaign," he said.
McManus will have extra responsibility this summer, having been named as County Championship vice-captain behind new skipper Luke Procter.
Head coach John Sadler described McManus as a "model professional" and "a leader in the dressing room".
"Last year was tough for him, but he's taken himself off to India and we've made some technical changes to his game which we're already seeing positive signs from and he's ready to really kick on," Sadler added.
Northamptonshire start their County Championship Division Two campaign away to Sussex on 5 April.

WARWICKSHIRE
Warwickshire left-arm spinner Danny Briggs has signed a new two-year contract at Edgbaston.
The 32-year-old ex-Hampshire and Sussex player, has extended his deal to at least the end of the 2025 season.
Briggs, who has made seven T20 and one ODI appearances for England, is the leading wicket taker in English T20 cricket with 219 scalps.
He took 14 T20 wickets last summer - to take his Bears tally to 122 in all competitions since signing from Sussex.
"England's leading T20 wicket taker is a nice tag to carry around," Briggs said.
"If you consider how many quality players have played T20 cricket in this country over the years, I'm very proud be in that position."
Briggs, who won the T20 Blast twice with Hampshire at Southampton in 2010 and Cardiff in 2012, also won the Men's Hundred at Lord's last summer with Manchester Originals.
He was part of the Bears' 2021 County Championship winning team, but the closest he has come to winning a knockout trophy at Edgbaston was losing to Worcestershire with Sussex in the 2018 T20 final.
"I've been lucky enough to win the Blast twice," he said. "But to be able to get to Finals Day here, in front of our own fans, would be very special for everyone. "
Briggs has taken 710 career wickets and hit 3,394 runs across all formats of the game.

Leicestershire have signed Will Pucovski as overseas cover, first five championship games. An interesting signing, they struggled for an opening partner to go with Rishi Patel last season, they could be a wild card in the D2 shake up although plenty of talk of Yorkshire walking it. although I'm not too sure what will be so different at Yorkshire in 2024?

Think it is possible they could “ walk it” OE as they had lots of narrow misses last year though as narrow wins are the sign of great team spirit ( as in 2011) the converse can be true.
Appreciate this thread Admin ; I would miss most of stuff on here.

Appreciate this thread Admin ; I would miss most of stuff on here. Interesting Des, I just thought it was big county arrogance. They probably do start favourites but I'd expect competition to come from Gloucestershire, Leicestershire and Glamorgan although 20 wickets on a regular basis might be problematic. Middlesex might surprise a few, despite financial difficulties and no overseas players. Their batting should be OK in D2 and an attack of TRJ, Bamber and Higgins should be spicy, particularly in the early months of the season.

"He will be a key figure in Division One. His consistency and leadership have been instrumental in our success."
Libby, who is now signed up until the end of the 2027 season, added: "There's no reason why we can't compete for, and win, trophies.

HAMPSHIRE
Hampshire have signed Australian international Michael Neser for this summer's T20 Blast.
The 33-year-old bowling all-rounder has spent the past three years with Glamorgan.
He is available for the first eight Blast matches across May and June - including a return to Cardiff - and potentially a County Championship game.
"I am very excited to have joined Hampshire and can't wait to join up with the squad," Neser said.
"It looks to be an amazing place to play cricket and hopefully I can contribute to more success on the pitch."
Neser has picked up 130 wickets in T20 matches, at an average of 23.74, while he has accumulated more than 350 first-class scalps at an average of just over 24.
The right-armer is also a useful lower-order batter and made back-to-back County Championship centuries last season, with 487 runs from just seven innings.
He also collected 20 wickets, at an average of 26, in just six appearances and took a hat-trick in the Championship match against Yorkshire in May.
Neser made his Australia Test debut in the Ashes in Adelaide in December 2021, and won his other cap against West Indies at the same ground 12 months later.
He has picked up four ODI caps - between June 2019 and September 2023 - and recently won the Big Bash for the second time during a spell with Brisbane Heat.
SURREY
West Indies international fast bowler Kemar Roach will return to Surrey for the first seven matches of the 2024 County Championship season.
The 35-year-old has been part of the team that has won the competition in the past two seasons, taking 25 wickets in their title defence last year.
Roach has 396 wickets from 183 matches across all formats for his country.
He will join up with his Surrey team-mates in time for their first match, against Lancashire in April.
"Everyone knows that Surrey is a second home for me, and I love coming to London to play at one of the best grounds in the world," he said.
"The club's ambitions in the red-ball game are a big draw for me and I want to play my role in winning another County Championship trophy."
Roach has taken 73 wickets in total across three previous seasons with Surrey, with his latest spell set to end after the visit to Hampshire on 24-27 May.
GLOUCESTERSHIRE
Australia top-order batter Cameron Bancroft has re-signed for Gloucestershire for the 2024 season.
The 31-year-old has scored 446 runs in 10 Tests for his country and has played in two Ashes series.
Bancroft is the top scorer in the Sheffield Shield, Australia's domestic competition, this winter with 512 runs in six matches.
He will be available to play across all formats for Gloucestershire, following previous spells in 2016 and 2017.
The deal was announced 24 hours after former captain Mark Alleyne was named as the club's new head coach.
"I'm absolutely delighted to sign with Gloucestershire and to have the chance to return to the club where I started my county career," said Bancroft, who has alos played for Durham and had a short spell with Somerset last year.
"I love playing county cricket and the opportunity to play all formats with the club is something I'm really excited about.
"With a new coach and a really talented playing group I'm looking forward to the season ahead."
Bancroft has scored 9,449 runs in 146 first-class matches, including 25 centuries, but served a nine-month ban from international and domestic cricket in 2018 for his part in ball tampering against South Africa before returning to play in the following year's Ashes series.
Gloucestershire have signed Australian all-rounder Beau Webster as an overseas player for the 2024 season.
A right-handed batter who bowls both right-arm medium pace and off-spin, Webster is eligible for the T20 Blast.
The 30-year-old will also be available for Gloucestershire's County Championship fixtures against Yorkshire and Glamorgan in June.
Webster, from Hobart, Tasmania, played eight matches for Essex in the One-Day Cup last season.
He was among the top 10 best-performing bowlers in the competition with 14 wickets at an economy rate of 5.47. With the bat, he scored 280 runs at an average of 37.14.
"I am really excited and very grateful for the opportunity to join Gloucestershire for the 2024 Vitality Blast campaign," Webster said.
"I'm looking forward to not only developing my game further in the UK but also to playing a part in helping the team win matches during my time here. I can't wait to meet my teammates and get started."
Webster started his career in 2014 at Tasmania, where he stills plays.
This season he has scored 554 runs at an average of 61.55 in the Sheffield Shield, second only to Cameron Bancroft in the run-scoring charts. The 6ft 6in all-rounder also has 13 wickets from seven appearances in Australia's first-class competition.

Alongside his exploits for Tasmania, Webster also impressed in the recent Big Bash League with Melbourne Stars, scoring 262 runs at an average of 43.66.
Gloucestershire head coach Mark Alleyne said: "Beau is an incredibly well-rounded player who is experienced across all formats and offers a great option with both the bat and the ball.
"Beau is a tall, powerful player who can have a terrific impact on a game, and I'm really excited to have Beau join us for the Vitality Blast and to see him help win cricket matches for Gloucestershire."

Hutton, who recorded six five-wicket hauls last term, was also Notts' top wicket-taker in the One-Day Cup in 2022 and 2023.
"His skills and consistency with the ball are tremendous," Notts head coach Peter Moores told the club website.
"He has got better and better every year since coming back to Trent Bridge a few years ago."
Hutton, who came through the club's youth ranks, left for Northamptonshire in 2017 only to return to Nottinghamshire in 2021.
He said he felt his 2023 County Championship efforts were "the reward for a lot of hard work over a number of years".
"To have my best season after a decade as a professional at my boyhood club is pretty special," Hutton added.

Former Glamorgan skipper Lloyd, who was on loan at Derby last summer, is the new club captain and will lead the team in the County Championship.

Lloyd needs two more runs to reach 5,000 in first-class cricket and has also taken 124 wickets in all formats.
"It's a real honour for me to be named captain of our red-ball side. We have a special group of players, coaching staff and people around the club, this is an exciting opportunity I couldn't turn down," said the 31-year-old, who has a three-year deal with Derbyshire.

ESSEX
All-rounder Matt Critchley has signed a contract extension to stay at Essex until the end of the 2027 season.
He joined from Derbyshire before the 2022 season, and has played 54 games for Essex in all formats, scoring 2,000 runs and taking 80 wickets.
The 27-year-old was the club's player of the year in 2023.
"I've felt like I've constantly been improving since I've been here, which was one of the main reasons I wanted to stay," he told the club website.
Critchley hit 132 on debut against Kent at Chelmsford in the County Championship in April 2022 and has added two more first-class centuries since.
He also took a career-best 5-28 with his leg-breaks in the T20 Blast against Middlesex last year before they lost to Somerset in the final.
Essex will be looking for Critchley to continue his good form with the bat with Sir Alastair Cook retiring and Dan Lawrence moving to Surrey.
"I've enjoyed my first couple of years here and I very much wanted to stay," Critchley added.
"Obviously, we've had a couple of changes to the team this winter, but we've made some good additions, so I'm very much looking forward to this year and the next few years."
Head coach Anthony McGrath added: "His value to the team is huge, and that was on full display with his player of the year-winning performances last year.
"He's been working especially hard on his batting recently, and that has brought a lot of positive results. He's great to work with, and we're looking forward to having him around for a long time yet."
NOTTINGHAMSHIRE
Ex-England opener Alex Hales has agreed a white-ball contract extension with Nottinghamshire for the 2024 season.
Hales has scored a club record 4,687 T20 runs for Notts Outlaws and helped them lift the trophy in 2017 and 2020.
He plays the format around the world and is the leading run-scorer for Sydney Thunder in Australia's Big Bash competition.
"I'm particularly excited to see how we can kick on in 2024 with Joe Clarke as captain," Hales told the Notts website.
"He'll be a great leader and, with him, we will be well-placed to press our case again this year."
Hales, 35, is currently playing for Khulna Tigers in the Bangladesh Premier League and hit 60 off 33 balls against Rangpur Riders on Tuesday.
"Alex is a player with an unrivalled T20 record for Notts and an immense pedigree in the game, and any side with him in it is stronger as a result," said head coach Peter Moores.
"He's got a wealth of experience that he can pass on to the rest of the group and he leads by example at the top of the order with the intent he displays.
"The greatest compliment I can pay him is that he's the player our younger lads want to be around and bat with, because of what he's achieved in the game and what they can learn from him."
Hales, who retired from international cricket last year, scored 328 runs in 15 games in last summer's T20 Blast.

"I'm buzzing to be coming back to join up with the team. I can't wait to pull on the Three Feathers again and help the club push for more success."
Alec Stewart, director of cricket at Surrey CCC, said: "Sean is a highly skilled cricketer, and everyone saw last season what he is capable of in red-ball and white-ball cricket.

He joined the Bears in 2013 and recently surpassed 500 career wickets.
The contract extension comes off the back of two successive seasons where Hannon-Dalby was the club's leading wicket-taker in red-ball cricket.

Still remember watching that on tv. I was inconsolable at the day being rained off before the miracle job was done on the pitch.
Last time I saw Derek Underwood playing was at Aigburth in 87 when Graeme Fowler actually came down the pitch and hit him over mid on to bring up his century. He wasn’t often hit in the air . I did see him a few years later in Australia where he used to run holidays for the Ashes.
RIP
