Either he failed the fitness test or he'll be in the 1st XI squad (compared with the 13 for the Surrey Game) ahead of either or both of Aspinwall and Boyden. Raining again after something like 25 boundaries in 17.3 overs but a played on wicket.

Went over and watched most of the day.
A tough day at the office for a young attack on a road against set batters who went hard. Aspinwall had been substituted (along with Bell) to travel with the first team and Boyden looks a long way off being a first team bowler currently.
The two who emerged with great credit are Barnard and Hayes who both bowled their overs in the eye of the storm and stuck to their task admirably and were a bit unlucky at times.
I wonder where Barnard is up to with Lancs and a contract? He looks a class act but how many SLA’s can one squad have? Might be some other County’s gain unfortunately. I can understand why Lancs have let Carney go but I would hope we can keep this fella.
As for Hayes, having seen this group of U17-U18 pace bowlers a number of times now, it is mystifying how they have put some of the other young pace bowlers in the Academy ahead of him- and ahead of James Dunn for that matter too. Like Barnard, it could end up with other counties getting the benefit I fear.

The added worry here is the 'name' factor in this mix. I just want us to bring through the best players we can not matter what their background.

We may have missed signing on a few, but I was only thinking the other day of any players we've released who've gone on to do well at other counties. I could think of Ian Cockbain jnr who did well in one-day cricket for Gloucester but couldn't think of any others apart from going back in the day to Neal Radford who joined Worcester and played test cricket for England.
Can anybody think of any other player we've released in the last 50 years, who went onto play test cricket for England? I'm not including those who chose to leave(eg, Irani) or those who had already played for England when at Lancs(eg.Hameed)?

Hasn’t played Test cricket but Jordan Clark has been a brilliant signing for Surrey from us.

The departure of Neal Radford always seemed strange to me. As I remember things he was registered as an overseas player while he qualified to be "English", but didn't play much for the first team because we had the likes of Clive Lloyd, Mike Holding, Colin Croft and possibly Steven Jeffries at the time. He then left for Worcestershire soon after he qualified as an English player. Not sure whether he was released or chose to move on.

But I would always have difficulty when limiting that to those who chose..... Choosing to leave is not always a clear cut situation. Many probably "chose to leave" because they were being frozen out one way or another or simply because they knew Lancashire's hierarchy at the time were never going to select them for whatever reason.
Widening the criteria Reece and Mullaney derserve to have their name mentioned here if Clark gets a mention.
Interesting to note, in passing Morley not playing for Derbyshire. Offspinner Thomson taking 7/65 for Derbyshire against Glamorgan.

weather looks bad on the webcam for today's match against Durham seconds: I assume this is still live:
scorers posting "No play before Lunch, to be taken at 12:30pm" before 10am
Whoever does the club website hasn't looked out of the window yet.

How long before Peter Moores' nephew playing alongside them?
