NEW BRIGHTON 127 (36) (DR While 50, LC Botes 30*; Darkes-Sutcliffe 4-22 inc 3 wickets in 5 balls, Aitchison 4-33 inc 4 wickets in 4 balls) v FORMBY 245-5d (50) (Vahaluwala 83*, Brown 41, Smithies 35, Oldham 33) Result: Formby won by 118 runs Toss: Formby Points: New Brighton (1 bat pt + 2 bowl pts), Formby (20 pts + 5 bat pts) 41 off 57 balls for Karl Brown and 33 off 62 for Sam Oldham. Louis Botes did not bowl but creditable 30 not out from 78 balls in a well beaten team. ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404885Never sure play-cricket or cricketarchive correctly record the players. Louis Botes Jr or Louis Botes snr? Father or son?

Hi Chris. Don’t know. Not familiar with either myself but had heard Lancs were restricting his bowling so seemed reasonable to think it might be the younger saw him (junior) bowl at Sedbergh. Strange that they were happy for him to bowl 7 overs straight for Academy but nothing for his club. His father was walking around and around the ground.

Saturday June 30th BOOTLE 254-5d (45.0 overs) (Davies 71, Kershaw 54, Hale 41, Purser 28*) v NEW BRIGHTON 256-8 (63.4) (Rowland 65, AD Clarke 50, LC Botes 47, DR While 29, JP While 20; CG Prince 5-59, Davies 3-75) Result: New Brighton won by 2 wickets Toss: Bootle Points: Bootle (5 bat pts + 4 bowl pts), New Brighton (20 pts + 2 bowl pts) ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404946 Surprising result but New Brighton now have some of their fire power backend Bootle were without Chris Liptrott. I was questioned as to whether this Louis Botes playing for New Brighton is Botes senior or junior who is with Lancs. Don’t know but suspect this is our man. Bowling less successful than batting this week ( 12-0-67-1). Will Hale 41 for Bootle. COLWYN BAY 234-8 (53) (Leach 61, Campion 49*, Gidlow 34, Johansen 32; Birkett 6-69) v RAINFORD 239-7d (57.3) (55 overs = 213-6) (P Farrar 107, White 53 [116-4th wkt], Dotters 38*; Holtby 3-66) Result: match drawn Toss: Rainford Points: Colwyn Bay (5 bat pts + 3 bowl pts), Rainford (4 bat pts + 4 bowl pts) ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404968 John Dotters with 3 4s and 3 6s at least had enabled Rainford to set a target from which they did not lose this apparently exciting draw. Dan Houghton ‘s twelve overs 1-42 outshone by his fellow opening bowler. FORMBY 137-3 (57) (Brown 46*, Seward 35*, Oldham 33; Sephton 3-60) v NORTHERN 203 (48.1) (Boardman 61, Laker 57, Snow 41; Aitchison 3-46; Seward 5 victims [ct 5]) Result: match drawn Toss: Northern Points: Formby (2 bat pts + 5 bowl pts), Northern (4 bat pts + 1 bowl pt) ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404977 As CF remarked, Hameed out first ball after which Karl Brown and Sam Oldham appear to have ground out a dull draw based on Brown’s undefeated 46 from 153 balls with 3 4s. Possibly they feared that Tom Sefton could have gone through the tail quickly and just preferred not to lose. Sefton bowled through the whole innings in what must have been searing heat 28-6-60-3. I don’t know if he has any county trials behind him but I rate him as superior as a wicket taker to Lilley or Parry LYTHAM 275-7 (54) (Cornall 104, Jefferson 80 [156 -3rd wkt], Lester 41, Holden 21; Bulcock 4-107) v LEIGH 291-6d (53) (Shallcross 133*, Foster 93 [197-2rd wkt], Hulbert 36*; Cornall 3-62) Result: match drawn Toss: Leigh Points: Lytham (5 bat pts + 3 bowl pts), Leigh (5 bat pts + 3 bowl pts) ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3405008 Lester not apparently allowed to bowl and no Croft for Lytham . Lester scored 41 off 30 balls, however , and Cornall’s 104 was off 135 balls with 14 4s and a six. Ross Zelem was out for a duck. Cornall 12-1-62-3 RAINHILL 140 (31.5) (McGladdery 50, Atkinson 24, Darekar 21*; Hartley 6-25) v ORMSKIRK 258-3d (52.3) (Armstrong 112, Bohannon 86* [141-2nd wkt], Baybutt 30, Knight 25*) Result: Ormskirk won by 118 runs Toss: Ormskirk Points: Rainhill (2 bat pts + 1 bowl pt), Ormskirk (20 pts + 5 bat pts) ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3405067 Ormskirk have gone top without ever seeming to hit top form to me. They reversed the result of a recent Cup game . Bohannon’s 86 not out in 93 balls with 12 4s and a six. Lavelle out for 1 to Tyler McGladdery In Rainhill’s reply , McGladdery got 50 off 50 balls with 9 4s. WALLASEY 162-8 (50.2) (Wilcox 77*, Cross 24; Misal 4-59) v HIGHFIELD 161 (36.2) (Shoaib Shah 57, Misal 40, Gaskell 27; Cross 7-49) Result: Wallasey won by 2 wickets Toss: Highfield Points: Wallasey (20 pts + 5 bowl pts), Highfield (3 bat pts + 4 bowl pts) ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3405073 No County interest but have given scorecard as remarkable fightback by Wallasey.

Taylor Cornall out for 24 and did not bowl for Lytham who were missing Toby Lester after his excellent 2020 performance. ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3405042 RAINFORD 120-6 (46.4) (White 30, Snellgrove 28; Sabbir Patel 4-42) v FORMBY 116 (41.4) (Aitchison 17*; Dotters 5-37, Houghton 3-20) Result: Rainford won by 4 wickets Toss: Rainford Points: Rainford (20 pts), Formby (1 bat pt + 3 bowl pts) Karl Brown took a couple of neat slip catches but not enough to win Formby the match after the excellent bowling by Houghton and Dotters . Early start caused me to miss the snorting delivery with which Dan Houghton got Karl Brown. John Dotters got Sam Oldham. ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results//3405050 match WALLASEY 194-4 (49.4) (Cross 80*, Wilcox 78* [150*-5th]; Darekar 3-75) v RAINHILL 192 (54.4) (Fletcher 40*, Atkinson 38, Veacock 35, McGladdery 25, Darekar 20; Bourne 4-71, Wilcox 3-20, Cross 3-49) Result: Wallasey won by 6 wickets Toss: Rainhill Points: Wallasey (20 pts + 5 bowl pts), Rainhill (4 bat pts + 2 bowl pts) Tyler McGladdery 25 off 68 but did not bowl ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3405080_________________

Saturday July 14th BOOTLE 166-9d (59.0 overs) (55 overs = 150-9) (Hale 56*, V Tripathi 34; Davies 5-43) v RAINFORD 169-5 (43.3) (Snellgrove 45, Dotters 44*, P Farrar 34; B Tripathi 4-30) Result: Rainford won by 5 wickets Toss: Rainford Points: Bootle (2 bat pts + 2 bowl pts), Rainford (20 pts) Really enjoyed this day . Injury ravaged Bootle are perhaps a bit short of confidence and I half expected the improving Rainford side to reverse the result at Rainford when they looked the best team there this season. Will Hale, who had a couple of games for our seconds a couple of years back, looked a really good player with lovely footwork to the spinners. Unfortunately, on 42, he attempted a suicidal run and caused a recurrence of a shoulder injury. He came back in the crisis to complete a deserved fifty but his dismissal, along with two excellent pieces of fielding by the Aussie pro , Comrey Edgworth, changed the game . Edgworth has struggled a bit with the bat ; good defence but gets tied down as happened today. However, he looks a real cricketer in the field Rainford’s supporters were nervous with four down but John Dotters and David Snellgrove batted well and with little fuss to get them almost there. ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404825Interestingly, there was a lot of talk amongst the Bootle supporters about the arrogance of Lancs players . When I mentioned that it had been said about Parry strutting around , that did surprise them, however . They thought that , despite his faults , he wasn’t arrogant on his spell there as pro. COLWYN BAY 127 (44.5) (Morris 41, Gidlow 16; Hartley 5-41, Mason 3-27) v ORMSKIRK 153 (40.1) (Armstrong 46, Baybutt 29, Maddock 24, Hartley 22; Jenkins 5-52, Campion 3-11) Result: Ormskirk won by 26 runs Toss: Ormskirk Points: Colwyn Bay (1 bat pt + 5 bowl pts), Ormskirk (20 pts + 2 bat pts) No Lavelle or Bohannon. Heard the score at tea and with spinner Jenkins doing the damage for Colwyn Bay, it was predictable that Tom Hartley would win it for the leaders . ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404835FORMBY 227-7d (51) (Vahaluwala 64, Oldham 42, Sutton 36, Seward 28) v LEIGH 125 (45.2) (Shallcross 39, Zelem 27, Bulcock 22; Sabbir Patel 6-47, Vahaluwala 3-25) Result: Formby won by 102 runs Toss: Formby Points: Formby (20 pts + 5 bat pts), Leigh (1 bat pt + 3 bowl pts) No Hameed or Parry Spain for Formby who recovered well from last week’s defeat . 42 for Sam Oldham . Ross Zelem , who scored two forties for Cumberland in the week , scored a pain staking 27 in 77 balls for Leigh. ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404842LYTHAM 222-9d (55) (Cornall 76, Holden 39, B Saunders 32; Cross 7-77) v WALLASEY 102 (30.2) (Davies 34; J Saunders 3-5, Holden 3-21) Result: Lytham won by 120 runs Toss: Lytham Points: Lytham (20 pts + 5 bat pts), Wallasey (1 bat pt + 4 bowl pts) Taylor Cornall 76 off 118 balls with 7 4s and a six though did not bowl for Lytham who managed well without Toby Lester. ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404882NEW BRIGHTON 129 (31.3) (Sandalls 55*, AD Clarke 24; Sephton 7-41) v NORTHERN 235-5d (55) (Jones 55, Grey 54, Laker 46, Snow 33, Boardman 25*; Nawab 3-47) Result: Northern won by 106 runs Toss: Northern Points: New Brighton (1 bat pt + 2 bowl pts), Northern (20 pts + 5 bat pts) Another extraordinary performance by Tom Sephton , who was described yesterday by a Bootle fan as the best slow left armer in the Liverpool Competition this century (“ and I include Keggsy in that”). Maybe but I should have mentioned Gary Keedy. ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404882RAINHILL 229-6d (50.1) (McGladdery 114, Veacock 43; Misal 3-88) v HIGHFIELD 177 (50) (Misal 50*, Gaskell 24; Darekar 5-55, Williams 3-49) Result: Rainhill won by 52 runs Toss: Rainhill Points: Rainhill (20 pts + 5 bat pts), Highfield (3 bat pts + 3 bowl pts) Another top class performance by Tyler McGladdery with 114 off 143 balls with 5 4s and 5 6s. ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404930

Saturday July 21st This first part of this post with four scores and comments was written between innings at Rainford. All summarised scores and the two missing scorecards are further down www.totalcricketscorer.com/TCSLive/TCSMatchDetail.aspx?id=69252 Funny wicket at Ormskirk if Karl Brown can have figures like that ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404922 Good bowling display by the two Lancs ex academy lads. I got there 20 mins after start and Louis Botes was already out. You would think Rainford should win as Ashraf Nawab not the bowler he was but would not take for granted. ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404861 Good to see Will Hale fit to play after his shoulder injury last week and pleased to see Bootle making such a good recovery as their very likeable captain Craig Prince is coming under some pressure ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404932 Taylor Cornall out for 19 Full scores are on the links in the post above (which was written between innings at Rainford )other than the two given here www.totalcricketscorer.com/TCSLive/TCSScorecard.aspx?id=69289 HIGHFIELD 75 (26.5 overs) (Owais Shah 14, Halliwell 14; Sephton 4-40) v NORTHERN 224-5d (47.2) (J Cole 82*, Snow 58 [115-4th wkt], Laker 39; Halliwell 3-83) Result: Northern won by 149 runs Toss: Highfield Points: Highfield (2 bowl pts), Northern (20 pts + 5 bat pts) No county involvement. LEIGH 201-9 (56.2) (Zelem 83, Foster 30, Molyneux 30; B Tripathi 4-36, Liptrot 3-86) v BOOTLE 200-9d (55) (Davies 61, Willliams 53, Hale 31, Kershaw 22; Bulcock 5-63, Pearson 4-19) Result: Leigh won by 1 wicket Toss: Leigh Points: Leigh (20 pts), Bootle (4 bat pts + 4 bowl ) Two former. lancs second opening bats and Cumberland opening batsmen, Zelem and Hale key players on opposite sides . Looks a thriller but Bootle continue to struggle. ORMSKIRK 134 (49) (Knight 22, ADJ Rankin 21; Vahaluwala 3-33, Aitchison 3-40) v FORMBY 137-8 (51.4) (Vahaluwala 27, Aitchison 24*) Result: Formby won by 2 wickets Toss: Ormskirk Points: Ormskirk (2 bat pts + 4 bowl pts), Formby (20 pts + 5 bowl pts) Jo’s Bohannon out cheaply as were Karl Brown and Porterfield. Bohannon 6-0-17-1 . Between innings I thought Tom Hartley ( 17-0-38-2) would win Ormskirk the game but I also thought Rainford would win. Shows how much I know! RAINFORD 85 (32.3) (P Farrar 48, White 17; DR While 4-12, Nawab 4-3Cool v NEW BRIGHTON 104 (33.2) (AT Watkins 28, DR While 21; Dotters 6-47) Result: New Brighton won by 19 runs Toss: New Brighton Points: Rainford (5 bowl pts), New Brighton (20 pts + 1 bat pt) A dreadful collapse by Rainford who had the game won at 73-3 and simply played a series of awful shots. Yes, it was turning square but am sure players would admit shot selection was dreadful. RAINHILL 122-4 (31.3) (McGladdery 47*, Higham 27, Atkinson 23) v LYTHAM 121 (39.2) (B Saunders 47, Jefferson 35; Atkinson 5-20, Williams 3-49) Result: Rainhill won by 6 wickets Toss: Lytham Points: Rainhill (20 pts + 5 bowl pts), Lytham (1 bat pt + 2 bowl ) Tyler McGladdery batted through and anchored innings despite facing only a third of deliveries. Actually scored at 4 per over WALLASEY 161-9d (55) (Wilcox 36, Ward 29, Bourne 22*; Holtby 4-50) v COLWYN BAY 162-5 (51.1) (JGT Johansen 67, Gidlow 37, Campion 32) Result: Colwyn Bay won by 5 wickets Toss: Wallasey Points: Wallasey (3 bat pts + 2 bowl pts), Colwyn Bay (20 pts + 4 bowl pts) No County players involved here www.totalcricketscorer.com/TCSLive/TCSMatchDetail.aspx?id=69301

Saturday July 28th According to website highlight, rain ruined most of the games though three of the draws look interesting games on their scores. I was at one of the matches that achieved a result with just a short rain break at Northern’s lovely Crosby ground. Have been spoilt this week with civilised cricket grounds ; complimentary tea and biscuits before play at Nantwich and complimentary good quality sandwiches at tea here BOOTLE 106-5 (34.0 overs) (Davies 24, Hale 23, Farrell 23, Williams 22*) v ORMSKIRK 223-7d (54) (Baybutt 71, OB Griffiths 52, Knight 29, Robinson 27; B Tripathi 4-85) Result: match drawn Toss: Ormskirk Points: Bootle (1 bat pt + 3 bowl pts), Ormskirk (5 bat pts + 2 bowl pts) Gavin Griffiths on his second appearance this season for Ormskirk took 1-30 and Tom Hartley 1-39. No Bohannon or Lavelle. Will hale made 23 for Bootle ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404824 COLWYN BAY 211-9d (60) (55 overs = 190-Cool (Hewathanthree 82*, Campion 37, Leach 31; Atkinson 5-71, Darekar 3-9Cool v RAINHILL 182-8 (52) (Atkinson 89*, Daluwattage 38, Edmundson 23; Holtby 4-46) Result: match drawn Toss: Rainhill Points: Colwyn Bay (4 bat pts + 4 bowl pts), Rainhill (3 bat pts + 4 bowl pts) Duck for Tyler McGladdery and no bowling in an interesting looking game on a ground where wickets often make results hard to come by ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404969 FORMBY 200 (51.3) (Sutton 83, Seward 31, Smithies 23, Ketteringham 20; Bourne 5-40, DM Beaver 3-44) v WALLASEY 190-8 (32) Wilcox 38, AP Beaver 34, Leckey 32, Eagles 24, Bourne 21*; Vahaluwala 3-60) Result: match drawn Toss: Wallasey Points: Formby (4 bat pts + 4 bowl pts), Wallasey (4 bat pts + 5 bowl pts) Hameed batting number 4 ( why? ) scored 11 and Sam Oldham out for 6 batting 3 in what looks another interesting draw ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404981 LYTHAM 237-7d (54) (Cornall 78, Taaffe 51*, M Cartmell 47* [110*-8th wkt]; J Ashton 5-2Cool v HIGHFIELD 220-7 (40) (Owais Shah 108, Misal 46 [114-2nd wkt]) Result: match drawn Toss: Highfield Points: Lytham (5 bat pts + 3 bowl pts), Highfield (5 bat pts + 4 bowl pts) Taylor Cornall 78 off 94 balls and 6-0-47-2 as Highfield made a good fist of it in an interesting looking game. ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3405007 NEW BRIGHTON 121-6 (21.5) (Clarke 58*, JP While 24, Rowland 21; Bulcock 5-45) v LEIGH 120 (41.4) (Hibbert 37, Zelem 31; DR While 7-34, Nawab 3-25) Result: New Brighton won by 4 wickets Toss: Leigh Points: New Brighton (20 pts + 5 bowl pts), Leigh (1 bat pt + 3 bowl pts) Quite a collapse for Leigh once Ross Zelem and his fellow opener were out. NORTHERN 220-5d (53.1) (J Cole 67*, Grey 47, Bailey 41, Brownlow 26, Jones 21) v RAINFORD 151 (42.3) (P Farrar 46, Dotters 29, Snellgrove 28; Sephton 5-49, Snow 3-52) Result: Northern won by 69 runs Toss: Northern Points: Northern (20 pts + 5 bat pts), Rainford (2 bat pts + 2 bowl pts) Tom Bailey played and batted well though in a position of no pressure . His five opening overs weren’t very threatening apart from one dropped catch and Paul Farrar apart from that drop looked very much at home against him. The result was predictable but Rainford actually had some momentum but a twenty minute rain delay split into two and the appearance of Tomas Sephton in the attack produced a downhill spiral again with two run outs and several unnecessary hole outs ; one a very good catch by Bailey . ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3405034

The summary is not available this week yet on the old Competition web site. There are also some scorecard inconsistencies. Leigh v Northern Northern are looking like champions with Tom Sephton just edging the battle of the slow left armers , both of whom opened the bowling. He bowled Ross Zelem who was sixth wicket down ; Zelem’s 53 off 89 balls had nine fours. Tom Bailey scored 27 off 42 balls for Northern ( before becoming one of Toby Bulcock’s four victims) but did not bowl. ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404999Lytham v Colwyn Bay Taylor Cornall and Steven Croft scoring 13 and 26 for Lytham. No Toby Lester. Croft four overs , one wicket for six. ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3405005Ormskirk v New Brighton Bohannon 62 off 84 balls for Ormskirk , Lavelle12, Gavin Griffiths 2 Gavin Griffiths , two tail wickets for nine from his seven overs after five wicketless to start. Tom Hartley 4 for 42 from 15.4 overs.Nicky Caunce whose Lancs seconds days must be nearly a decade ago took three wickets too. ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3405043Rainford v Highfield Only saw the Highfield innings in this local relegation battle derby and was baffled by my friend David Snellgrove’s captaincy. Highfield’s pro got a century and faced only three overs of seam ; clearly very comfortable against spin. He didn’t face Dan Houghton at all. Finlo Smith, a young Manx lad who plays for one of Lancs age group teams must be a better bowler than he looked today. ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3405051Rainhill v Formby Thriller here as Hammed and Sam Oldham’s efforts not quite enough to keep Formby in touch with leaders. Tyler McGladdery scored 30 for Rainhill ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3405061Bootle v Wallasey Will Hale out for 8 for Bootle who returned to winning ways ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3405070

Bootle , for the second time this season, probably robbed of victory by rain. Taylor Cornall out for 0 for Lytham who were without Lester. Will Hale 41 not out against his old club. BOOTLE 85-1 (25.0) (Hale 41*, Farrell 33) v LYTHAM 178 (57.4) (55 overs = ?) (Jefferson 47, Taaffe 41, J Saunders 24, M Cartmell 21; B Tripathi 4-32) Result: no decision - rain stopped play Toss: Bootle Points: Bootle (5 pts), Lytham (5 pts) ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404944 COLWYN BAY 95-2 (16.3) (Leach 32*, JGT Johansen 29*, Higginson 25) v FORMBY 94 (31.4) (Oldham 28; Jenkins 4-14, Holtby 4-32) Result: Colwyn Bay won by 8 wickets Toss: Formby Points: Colwyn Bay (20 pts + 5 bowl pts), Formby (1 bowl pt) No Hameed or Porterfield for Formby ; Sam Oldham fought pretty well a lone battle. ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404829 HIGHFIELD 67 (27.1) (R Hargreaves 15, J Ashton 15, Welsby 15; Bulcock 7-1Cool v LEIGH 223-5d (52.4) (Zelem 100*, Shallcross 31, Foster 25) Result: Leigh won by 156 runs Toss: Highfield Points: Highfield (2 bowl pts), Leigh (20 pts + 5 bat pts) Comprehensive win for Fulham with Zelem’s century and Bulcock’s 7 for 18. ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404853 NEW BRIGHTON 127 (46.4) (Hale 23; Darekar 6-32, Atkinson 4-59) v RAINHILL 129-8 (29) (McGladdery 60, Higham 21; Nawab 4-50, Clarke 3-21) Result: Rainhill won by 2 wickets Toss: New Brighton Points: New Brighton (1 bat pt + 4 bowl pts), Rainhill (20 pts + 5 bowl pts) Tyler McGladdery’s 60 off 90 balls with 6 r4s and 3 6s was followed by a collapse after he was fourth out at 119 but he’d done just enough. ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404892 NORTHERN 74-3 (11.4) (McCrae 38*, Jones 21) v WALLASEY 72 (49.4) (Davies 17; Sephton 5-34) Result: Northern won by 7 wickets Toss: Northern Points: Northern (20 pts), Wallasey (1 bowl pt) Tom Bailey 10-4-19-1 for Northern. He was out for 4 bating at number 3 but no scares for the Champions elect. ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404904 RAINFORD 184 (48.4) (Snellgrove 56, Edgeworth 35, Potter 30; Hartley 5-49) v ORMSKIRK 188-7 (34.3) (Caunce 38*, Armstrong 36, Platt 28*, Maddock 22, OB Griffiths 21, Hartley 20; Dotters 4-84) Result: Ormskirk won by 3 wickets Toss: Ormskirk Points: Rainford (3 bat pts + 3 bowl pts), Ormskirk (20 pts) Second place Ormskirk were 21-3 with Lavelle and Knight both gone for ducks to John Dotters. Later they were 139 for 7 and facing defeat. I wasn’t able to go but their skipper David Snellgrove tells me they should have won but just bowled poorly from there. Nicky Caunce hit 38 from 20 balls to take Ormskirk home. Earlier , Caunce , who often does not open the bowling these days, had rolled back the years to take both Rainford openers in his first two overs. Tom Hartley then took 5-49 in his 13 overs and then scored a useful 20 off 17 balls before John Dotters bowled him. ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404924

Saturday August 18th COLWYN BAY 264-4 (52.4 overs) (Hewathanthree 96*, Morris 61* [116*-5th wkt], Gidlow 60, Higginson 32; B Tripathi 3-106) v BOOTLE 261- (51.3) (Kershaw 56, Farrell 51 [100-2nd wkt], Williams 54*, V Tripathi 54; Campion 3-91) Result: Colwyn Bay won by 6 wickets Toss: Colwyn Bay Points: Colwyn Bay (20 pts), Bootle (5 bat pts + 2 bowl pts) After Formby’s surprising collapse here last week the Colwyn Bay wicket reverted to type although Will Hale got a duck. Colwyn Bay’s win puts them in a good position to avoid relegation ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404828 FORMBY 224-2d (51) (Brown 100*, Seward 79* [176*-3td wkt], Oldham 25) v HIGHFIELD 149 (42) (Owais Shah 76, Taylor 20; Vahaluwala 3-32, Sabbir Patel 3-53) Result: Formby won by 75 runs Toss: Formby Points: Formby (20 pts + 5 bat pts), Highfield (2 bat pts + 1 bowl pt) Karl Brown repaid some of his alleged £300 per match fee after a poor season to date. 14 4s and a 6 in his hundred off 189. Sam Oldham 25 in 24 balls with 4 4s and a 6. ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404841 LYTHAM 94 (42.1) (M Cartmell 30, Taaffe 20; Nawab 5-25, AD Clarke 3-27) v NEW BRIGHTON 107 (36.2) (AD Clarke 23; B Saunders 5-43) Result: New Brighton won by 13 runs Toss: Lytham Points: Lytham (5 bowl pts), New Brighton (20 pts + 1 bat pt) Taylor Cornall took 2tail wickets -5 but only scored 5 in Lytham’s collapse which with the surprising defeat of Bootle made it a disastrous day for the bottom two clubs, Highfield and Rainford ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404877 ORMSKIRK 84 (2Cool (Armstrong 22; Hulbert 5-33, Pearson 3-22) v LEIGH 87-2 (12.4) (Zelem 25, Hulbert 23, Foster 21*) Result: Leigh won by 8 wickets Toss: Ormskirk Points: Ormskirk (1 bowl pt), Leigh (20 pts + 5 bowl pts) Big surprise here and perhaps more surprisingly , Toby Bulcock was not the main destroyer. Lavelle and Hartley both out for 9. Hartley one brought on as third change with 3.4 wicketless overs. ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results//3404909 RAINHILL 124 (35.2) (McGladdery 45, Shoaib Khan 19; Sephton 5-53) v NORTHERN 220-9d (52.3) (Grey 100, Brownlow 38; O'Toole 4-36) Result: Northern won by 96 runs Toss: Northern Points: Rainhill (1 bat pt + 4 bowl pts), Northern (20 pts + 5 bat pts) Tyler McGladdery 10 overs 2 for 43 and batting made 45 off 54 balls with 4 4s and 3 6s. He was first out at 60 and after that it became the inevitable procession destroyed by Tom Sephton. ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404934 WALLASEY 246-9d (54) (Makol 77, Wilcox 55, GJ Beaver 28*, Leckey 20; Dotters 4-61, Davies 3-79) v RAINFORD 143 (32) (Houghton 25, Bailey 24, White 24, Hemingway 23; Cross 4-44, Bourne 3-50) Result: Wallasey won by 103 runs Toss: Rainford Points: Wallasey (20 pts + 5 bat pts), Rainford (2 bat pts + 4 bowl pts) On my way to watch this dispiriting performance by Rainford, I saw a Trans Pennine Express heading for Scarborough. Would love to have been on it, although not for the first time, I don’t think their weather is looking too great. I did get the sound of seagulls at the cricket at least, with Wallasey’s Oval ground being so close to the mouth of the Mersey. My first ever visit to this ground was 41 years ago when I watched Lancs seconds defeat Cheshire easily, both Bernard Reidy and David Hughes peppering the surrounding houses. A month ago Rainford looked to be heading for mid table respectability but they have not recovered from the terrible collapse on Jul 21st against New Brighton who with the Lytham result today in mind, do seem to be making a speciality of this. ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404959

Apologies for format again. Northern not quite certain yet as Jos Bohannon, fresh from his successful County debut, thwarted them yesterday. 3 games to go and they are effectively three wins ahead but ignoring bonus points. Wonder do they still get their £300; would guess so. Feel really sorry for Parry at present. He’s never been a favourite of mine but he showed good character by getting 50 for the seconds recently which ended a collapse. Ross Zelem followed his 86 for Cumberland in mid week with 89 here and was rarely tested. His dad was saying that he just isn’t bothered by statistics and is completely oblivious to scorecard pressure. He just bats. He said he has accepted he will never play County Cricket though surely the experience of formerly Cumberland’s Richard Gleason should encourage him. He is only 23. NORTHERN 109-2 (44) (McCrae 53*, Laker 34) v ORMSKIRK 160-7d (52.4) (Bohannon 79, Lavelle 21, Armstrong 20; Snow 3-41) Result: match drawn Toss: Ormskirk Points: Northern (1 bat pt + 3 bowl pts), Ormskirk (3 bat pts + 1 bowl pt) Jos Bohannon again showed his ability to graft here as his 79 off 161 balls contained just four fours and one six. George Lavelle had no boundaries in his 21 off 39. ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3404901 New Brighton are home to Wallasey in their traditional Bank Holiday clash tomorrow. May go along . In Division One, here is a rarity. Gary Keedy took no wickets for leaders Southport at Aigburth. Luke Procter playing ; not long he has been there, presumably to try to save Liverpool from relegation. Good innings by Procter but no wickets opening the bowling. LIVERPOOL 190-6d (48.3) (Procter 78*, Bleakley 48, Holliday 42; Warhurst 4-49) v SOUTHPORT AND BIRKDALE 149-7 (43) (Yates 58, May 43; Kelly 3-51) Result: match drawn Toss: Liverpool Points: Liverpool (4 bat pts + 3 bowl pts), Southport and Birkdale (2 bat pts + 3 bowl pts) ldcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3280759
