Congratulations on his selection but I don't see him as a test player, or a regular 4 day player for Lancs.

I'm not sure I'd have Tom near the One Day Squad (or even the Lions) let alone the Test squad.
Let's remember he hardly took a wicket either in the first class game (BB 2-10 in 10 matches) or the Blast (7 wickets in 14 matches, BB 1-11) this year. He hasn't ever played List A for Lancashire. BB in his ODIs 0-48.
Is this franchise cricket playing a role in test match selection, already?

Good on him - best of luck Tom.
Think he might surprise a few on responsive wickets.
Looked really good at the end of 2022 but wasn't able to build in it in 2023. It will be good experience for him even if he doesn't play.

Three specialist spinners plus Mark Wood. Could be opening the bowling if Stokes is still not bowling.

Will the Indian wickets help him? I wasn't impressed with him much last season, thought he took a step back from the previous season.

I would share the doubt above but Derek Pringle in The Cricket Paper thought it was not necessary to be a big spinner of the ball or to be a master of flight in India. He said that what is needed is to fire it in on line and length and let the big turning pitches just make it spin enough to get wickets. He cited Panesar as an example. As MITS said, we will see.
