Thank goodness I haven’t been to any of this. It joins the South African double 200 at Colwyn Bay in that category for me.

You find the 8th bowler is the one who does the damage

624 for 9 - 178 in front. Probably worth batting on for 20 mins (max) to see if we can get another 20-odd. Grasping at straws, there was a bit in the pitch for the spinners after tea, which is why so many of our batters perished on the charge, so there might be a bit more tomorrow but Somerset will have to bat poorly to lose. Fortunately, Surrey can't win but Hampshire look nailed on.

I suspect we might bat on as the tactic these days seems to be to get as big a lead as possible whilst accepting that the innings may be over in one ball meaning three overs have been wasted.
Another option might have been to declare half an hour before the close and see how Somerset went on after chasing around in 80 (or whatever) degree heat all day.

With Saturday in mind are Lancs trying to wear Somerset down by batting on and on? 😁

I don't see the point in batting on, it is going to take 3 overs out of the game for probably not many runs. Best chance of a result is to declare and hope the Somerset batting buckles. Incidentally Somerset are the only team not to have drawn a championship game this year.

Ye he may well be a nice lad gaz, but the answer to your question is he is not . Its painful watching him ,100 per cent he will play saturday thou .probably because of his fielding. And mark chilton pushing for him

Don’t think Chilton has anything to do with selection these days, anymore than Gidney or Hegg or the staff in the comms team. Try replacing the word Chapple for Chilton in the two sentences above. Chapple will consult, with Crowe and Krikken, if at all.

On a temp basis.
I'd be amazed if he had a say in selection. It's Chapple, steeped in the Lancashire way:
First team coach with assistant coach and a phone call to the second team coach to find out who is ready, much more likely to be selection rather than Director of Cricket Performance which is much more pathway orientated rather than first team. His role is not overall Director of Cricket which was Allott's role.
And the pathway has changed, been tweaked in the last year.
