First 5/for by any Lancashire bowler this season other than by Hassan Ali.

Can't be many sides that lose after scoring 500+ in the first innings! You're quite correct of course, but it did make me think of the following game, when we scored just 13 short of 600 yet still managed to lose! www.cricketarchive.com/Lancashire/Scorecards/62/62528.htmlI suppose you could say we didn't have to lose, as we declared twice. Given that Derbyshire scraped home by two wickets, it seems it was actually an exciting finish. On another note one for older readers, prompted by Reece Topley's exploits in the ODI today. Didn't his dad, Don, once take a catch as a substitute fielder for England in a Test against the West Indies in 1984. Does anyone remember?

Suspect possibly declaring 30 minutes before the close last night may have been advantageous Yeah but even then they might still have kept us out. Need some extra fizz in the bowling attack don't we. Can we not sign Gleeson for red-ball?

More chance of jimmy clitheroe being available than JA. Long break between the India test and the SA test. Think he might play against Kent First test against South Africa starts 17th August. There will have been a two week break between the India test and the Northants game. The First test against South Africa starts 17th August. So I don't think it would be unreasonable for him to play both games. I would certainly expect him to play in one of them.

Jimmy was on commentary yesterday and was asked when his next game is and he replied the South African test. Bailey having a modest season last year average 18.7, strike 43 balls....this season average 32.5 strike 79 balls. Of course this maybe down to the troublesome cricket balls. We're third in the table but Hants, at 2nd, have twice as many wins as us.....Great win for Surrey's strong batting yesterday..apparently 1st time Yorks has lost after scoring 500+ runs in the their 1st innings and got themselves fined for slow over rate. They seemed to have fielded a weak side...

I was looking at the averages yesterday and 40 certainly seems to be the new 30 for batters in this summer of flat decks, rubbish balls and runs aplenty. I think Bailey's figures look pretty decent in that context.
It's been said elsewhere on here that the struggles of the tourists, pitched pretty much straight into Test matches, have said much for the value of playing regular cricket.

I make that six weeks without any cricket for Jimmy! Indeed but Jimmy was saying that England practice at full throttle and presumably that is enough exercise as far as he is concerned...
