How many overseas players are allowed in the Blast? Thought it was only 2 Yes, it's only play two, but you can have 3 contracted. I think. Interesting that the website article says that Mitchell is looking forward to playing along his old Blackpool teammates Croft and Gleeson. Does that mean Richard Gleeson has some sort of a contract for 2023? Nothing has been announced.

Disappointed we haven't got a crackerjack fast bowler for the championship, think we need one if we're going to win the championship. Perhaps Ric Gleeson is fit enough to play champo?

Compared to previous years, hopefully Lancashire will have Saqib Mahmood who except 2019 and 2021 has hardly been available. Do they really need more than Anderson, Mahmood, Bailey, Wood and Williams? Three from those five plus Lamb, De Granhomme, Balderson before considering Boyden and Aspinwall. And forgot Blatherwick.

Yeah that's my point. Anderson, Bailey, Mahmood, Wood and Parkinson/Hartley is pretty close to an international-standard bowling attack, so there's no point bringing in an average fast bowler from overseas.
The only country that's 'IPL-free' at the moment is Pakistan, and Hassan Ali has already signed with someone else. Afridi and Naseem Shah would have been great signings but I guess they're unavailable.
So really there weren't many great options for bowlers, and it made sense to bring in a couple of batsmen. Mitchell was brilliant for NZ in England last year so he should enjoy the conditions.

Fair point(s), I just thought Hassan Ali made a real difference last year. If we get to see plenty of Mahmood that will be exciting and good for the team although I am sure he will be carefully "managed". If Wood is available that also provides extra pace. If/when they're all available team selection will be tricky.
I'm also pleased with the Mitchell signing but I think it's more about the Blast. de Grandhomme's bowling could be really useful in April, he didn't set the Big Bash alight this year. Just to note both Naseem Shah and Afridi played in the championship last season but perhaps they're ruled out if Pakistan have a one day series.

Originally thought it was two safe/boring signings, but the idea is growing on me now.
If Jennings, Wells and Bohannon give us a solid base consistently Vilas and Mitchell will fill their boots in the County Championship on decent, and nearly decent pitches, and De Grandhomme will be more than useful in white-ball cricket(especially 50 overs) with his legside hitting and his partnership breaking abilities with the ball.
Would still have preferred somebody younger, less injury prone for the white ball stuff though.

I think Mitchell is a good signing but I think De Grandhomme is a bit long in the tooth now, but could be useful in the one day stuff. Would be happy to be proved wrong about De Grandhome.

Darryl Mitchell not in the New Zealand 11 to play the final game of their tour of Pakistan today. Hope that means he is already on his way to Manchester for the Somerset game and not injured.

Surely we need to sign a pace bowler for the latter part of the season. Who though?
Hassan Ali looking a big loss - guess we were just blown out of the water financially.
