Felt almost spoilt last year having Hassan Ali. Can’t help but think a season of toil beckons without him or someone of a similar ilk. Leaves us with Williams, Sadj finding his fitness, Bailey who will come back in now Jim injured and Balderson. It’s certainly not going to get near winning any league. Tom Hartley as good as a T20 player he is doesn’t scream red ball and is no taking wickets, baffled Parky been frozen out. Surely Hartley isn’t just in it as he bats deep. We have drawn 5 so far and with a bit of extra poise could have won 2/3 of them which would see us banging on the door.

Notts are now favourites to sign Tongue. Clearly a talented bowler but if he is in the England set up he probably won't play that much county cricket.
Notts rumoured to also be signing Pennington from Worcester and Scrimshaw from Derbyshire.
Pat Brown is going to Derbyshire from Worcester.
Haynes and Ben cox may also leave Worcester. Haynes is a talented bat but don't know if we are one of those chasing him.
Du Plooy of Derbyshire may move on. Wants to play in division one and middlesex are considered favourites.
With Vilas and Croft getting older could we be in the market for a batsman? Can Jones step up? Can Bell Hurst or Singh progress quickly to the level required?
Anyone heard any other rumours?

Sounds like there’s a few more talented players there for whom Peter Moores will achieve no improvement! Tongue will probably spend too little time there to be ruined.

For the championship next year I think we need to sign a quality fast bowler and a wicket taking spinner, either from another county or as an overseas. I am less concerned about our batting. Long term I think we should have Jennings, Wells, Bohannon and Balderson as the top four and give Jones a run at number five to see if he can establish himself in the team.

But first up - any thoughts about what happens when Mitchell and De Granhomme disappear?

If we are safe of relegation by the start of September but have no hope of catching Surrey is there much point replacing them.
Would we miss the big man? Joins the Vincent Astle Morrison list of dreadful kiwi overseas players

New to the board, long time Lancs fan. Overseas signings this year have been poor overall. Mitchell decent admittedly but an over the hill DeG and similar Vilas disasters. Players who should be nowhere near the first 11 are regulars Blatherwick Hartley Jones etc and Croft coming to the end of the road. The back up bowling to Bailey and Williams virtually non existent not a quality spin bowler on the books and supposed superstars not being selected for CC. Not seeing any overseas replacements for post Mitchell and DeG or news of signings for next season. Club trying to do it on the cheap again? At least 3 places in the first team 2024 need filling. Mid order bat, real pace option with the ball and quality spin bowler. Anybody hearing any rumours? Chilton and Chappell on thin ice for me.

Jones chose to go - turned down a 2-yr contract in favour of moving to Worcs. Tells its own story.

He knows we are signing one or more middle order batters?

Not according to Chilton, who says that Lancs were very keen for Jones to stay and offered him a two year contract. He preferred a move to Worcestershire. Jones is 27 and, apart from one season, has spent all his time "on the bench", only getting into the side when someone else has been unavailable. I'm not surprised he doesn't want any more of it.

Whilst no one seems to be certain, is it safe to assume now that like Gleeson, Buttler and Livingstone only have white ball contracts for Lancashire?
Players disappearing left, right and centre, but these two are never named in a red ball squad.
Has anything definitive come out of LCCC on this subject?

Players disappearing left, right and centre, but these two are never named in a red ball squad. Has anything definitive come out of LCCC on this subject? When the squad for the Hampshire game was announced the article on the website said that Butler and Livingstone were managing their workload. Realistically they are not going to play red ball cricket for us and if they were selected I could see it ending badly.

Players disappearing left, right and centre, but these two are never named in a red ball squad. Has anything definitive come out of LCCC on this subject? It is certain that Ric Gleeson signed a two year T20 only contract on the back of his success last year. So he has one year remaining. This was announced by the club.
It is also certain that Buttler was quoted on the club website on his return from the IPL as saying: “I’m really looking forward to pulling on the Red Rose once again and representing Lancashire Lightning in this summer’s Vitality Blast. To have the opportunity to play so many matches in this year’s Blast is really exciting for me and it’s a chance to really help the team after coming so close in last year’s final."
The absence of a reference to anything other than the VB is telling.
Livingstone .... who knows. But as a centrally contacted player for England like Buttler and Anderson, they (the players and the ECB) effectively decide when they play for Lancashire. What Livingstone's Lancashire contract says is probably immaterial. If they want rest....they get it.

Josh Tongue has joined Notts 'who beat off strong interest from Lancashire'. Good bowler but not sure how much Notts will see of him as likely to be involved with England.
