Quite. Why anyone goes for such players is beyond me.

Du Plooy leaves Derbyshire signing a 5 (five) year deal with Middlesex. Another small club to big club move.

All quiet on the Lancashire front during the unofficial transfer window for out of contract players. There are or will be gaping holes in the squad for next season. Concerning or are we going to go down the you win nothing with kids route?

Concerning or are we going to go down the you win nothing with kids route? According to Lancs action group we're trying to sign Rehan Ahmed. He signed a new contract a while ago, so it might be old news, or Leics were just trying to protect his value. If we pay a fee for him, everybody wins. Leics get the money, we get a top player for the Blast and Rehan gets to play at a test ground that favours spin.

Signed a contract as recently as mid July to extend his contract with Leicestershire from 2026 to 2027. Would have buy him out of a 4 year contract. His younger brother (at Notts) is reported to be better. Born 2008 already in the England u19 squad.

Four years seems a long time to stay a division 2 club, even though he's only 18 (and Leics look to be on an upward curve). It feels like Lancs will only pay top dollar for T20 players these days (see Salt) as they see the Blast as more important than the Championship. So maybe they will push the boat out for Rehan.

If Rehan, or his younger brother, are as good as they say then they will heading for ECB central contracts and franchise cricket. So little point signing them to Lancs when they will hardly ever play for us..

Still no news.
What's the plan? Are we backing the young players, or have the board decided cricket is a loss-making enterprise so aren't going to invest any money?

Lancashire cricket team not a priority to the board of Lancashire County CRICKET Club. Way down the pecking order somewhere below The Kaiser Chiefs or the like. After a triple choke last season I'm sensing a few years in the wilderness under Chappell and Chilton with Blatherwick opening the bowling until he is 40.

I really thought Chapple had broken off the shackles of the Watkinson era (safety first, adulthood starts at 28 etc etc) but the rise of Chilton seems to be taking us back to those days. He was always the blue-eyed boy, promoted to captain without having any noticeable qualifications for the job and, in effect, acting as a management stooge. If he is now in charge of recruitment, we are in trouble as he will do the bidding of whoever seems to have the most power and influence on the board. His comments on Colin de Grandhomme after the Essex defeat at Blackpool were very telling: the "critics" (i.e. everyone) don't realise what a "great attitude" CdG has. Understandable from Chilton because "great attitude" has got him to where he is.

The major clubs, like Lancs, have a major task in finding and developing the players we will need to replace Broad, Anderson, Bairstow etc etc. over signing, often non-England qualified, players from abroad.

Looks like we've got quite a few good ones coming through. Is there a chance that we forego an overseas batsman next season and just play the kids? Would mean we had more money to throw at an overseas bowler...

Signing quality overseas next year could be challenging with the T20 world cup in June. I'm sure the likes of Colin de Grandhomme will be available.
