Not that Lyon would ever have been expected to score runs against Jimmy , a different situation with them both being bowlers, but it still reminded of when Mike Gatting was appointed captain of MCC v Rest of World in 1987 and said how great it would be to be able to bring Malcom Marshall on to bowl rather than face him. Marshall didn’t disappoint him and looked the best of the many great bowlers in that game.

Was hoping we'd get Boland but actually this makes a lot of sense. We take plenty of wickets with the new ball and hopefully Lyon can clean up later on. Still think we need a bit of pace but a quality spin option should at least give us one wicket-taking threat at OT. Could we get Khawaja too? He's big mates with Lyon isn't he. Would have to bat 3 but sure we'd make it work! |

Jennings, Wells, Bohannon, Balderson, Bell with back up from Hurst/ Lavelle/ Singh/ Croft?
I think it's unfortunate that Jones left, he would have been another option in the middle order.
As things stand it's probably the right decision to get an overseas batter and hope that either Saqib is back in the team next year or the likes of Blatherwick, Aspinwall, Boyden or Stanley can establish themselves in the first team.
Whichever way we go with the second overseas it seems that we will be relying on players with little or no first class experience to make a significant contribution if we are going to be in contention for the championship.

His wife has just given birth so maybe a long stint on the other side of the planet doesn't fit in with family life.
Two weeks ago he said he had the contract ready to sign and wanted to complete his first game back from injury before deciding with his wife to sign it.

For the whole season. Article on the official confirms he'll arrive before the start of the season. Aussie overseas signings seem to head home late August to prepare for the Aussie domestic season. Excited to see him bowl in the championship.

There are some exciting potential overseas signings for the first block of championship games if they are available for county cricket and there's an appetite and a budget to pursue them: Steve Smith, Matt Henry and Jason Holder are just three.
