Unfortunately I couldn't persuade my pal to swap the Oval for Wantage Road so I'll be at the first two days of the Surrey game, but looks like we might be blessed by another sunny September.
Other counties have been signing locum overseas in their droves, I can understand why we haven't given our league position.
In our last championship fixture, the reverse fixture, we lined up: Keaton Jennings(c), Luke Wells, Josh Bohannon, Phil Salt(wk), Steven Croft, George Balderson, George Bell, Tom Hartley, Tom Bailey, Will Williams and Jack Morley
Don't expect too many changes. Perhaps Blatherwick for one of the spinners. Maybe Hurst, Lavelle, or Aspinwall for Croft.

I'm down there for the 4 day's and after a sparse August I'm looking forward to a return to red ball cricket, made even better with the promise of 4 decent day's weatherwise. It makes so much difference when you can plan for the match without the hindrance of inclement weather.
Regarding team selection a lot will depend on whether Bohannon is fit.

Northampton used to turn alot back in the day so both spinners may play although with Wells available and Bell's vicious offies, maybe another seamer is the way to go. Morley should play ahead of Hartley if so.

Jones in squad

There must be some mistake here. The club clearly stated when it was announced that Jones would be leaving that opportunities would be given to players who would be around next year rather that those who were leaving. So why are Jones and Vilas in the squad and not Lavelle, Hurst or Singh? Aspinwall is injured so maybe there is some justification for the inclusion of Lamb.

Jones in squad And Lamb and Vilas who are all leaving. No Hurst and no Lavelle. So one of the remaining games goes by without a youngster from the One Day cup. "Interesting" announcement by the club, Aspinwall injured but no mention of Morley. If Blatherwick, Hartley, Bailey and Williams don't play it will be a very long batting line up. Normally squads have extra bowlers not extra batting. Does that mean Bohannon not likely to be fully fit otherwise top 7 to be Jennings, Wells, Bohannon, (two from Bell, Vilas and Croft), Salt, Balderson? Lamb, Jones to miss out along with either Croft or Vilas? Or no Bohannon and Balderson bats at 3. Again Lamb and Jones miss out. Strange squad. There must be other injury concerns otherwise why are Lamb and Jones there? In Aspinwall's absence Boyden should be there to cover the bowling, not Lamb. Lavelle or Hurst or Singh to cover batting not Jones. Selector losing the plot!?

Beggars belief Jones selected ahead of Hurst and Lavelle. Club must be prioritising 2nd XI championship. Lie third behind Leicestershire (7 matches, 7 batting bonus points) and Hampshire.

Step forward Mr Mark Chilton, Conservative MP for Emirates Old Trafford North. July - stands in front of his constituents and says one thing, September - does the complete opposite. In my youth the saying was - never trust a copper...to that you can add anybody associated with the Lancashire management and staff.

Chilton already admitted, that he "mis spoke" when he was quoted about Jones and only playing players who would be with the club next year, when Chapple selected Lamb a matter of days later.
And are you sure first team selection is part of Chilton rather than Chapple's responsibilities. I suspect the first team selection starts and stops with Chapple. Not the Director of Cricket Development. Carl Crowe more likely involved than everyone's pet hate.
There's another saying: never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Chris, I rate your views on cricket highly and I know you’ve got a lot of time for Chilton.
Irrespective of who is involved in team selection I think the director of cricket or cricketing performance or performance cricket or whatever Lancashire call it now, should set the culture for the club and I just don’t like the culture at present. I don’t entirely blame Chilton for that as it is a culture of inward looking negativity that has come down for thirty years and Chilton isn’t a strong enough man to resist it.
I would never want Lancashire to lose a game but I feel so distant from everything that goes on at Emirates plc , Manchester branch.
I would no more believe a statement that comes out of the Lancashire hierarchy now than anything Sunak or Starmer say.
I will be at Southport watching the seconds on Monday unless they won’t let me in!

Chris,
1. First of all I respect your views.
2. I can't for the life of me fathom why you are trying to defend him.
If you were at that forum you must have been, the same as me, absolutely embarrassed about how Lancashire handled it. There were two main points to address, the cock up regarding the seating for the Northants CC match and the departure of three players. Lancs fudged the issue re the seating then Chilton took centre stage explaining why Lancs were quite happy/didn't want to lose players from the current squad...it was bloody embarrassing! This bloke is supposed to be Lancashire's DOC, someone who we can look up to and respect, he stood there that evening and in his own words told the members what was happening re the departing players. The book stops at him, not Chapple, not Crowe...if he's not up to the job then the sooner he resigns the better. This bloke represents Lancashire when it comes to important meetings with the ECB and other important boards, if this is the way he conducts himself then god help us. Remember Lancashire scoured the world when looking for the present DOC..this is what we have!
