I’m glad we batted sensibly towards the end last night and didn’t go gung-ho to try and get an extra batting point and maybe throw a couple of wickets away.
I would have picked Aspinwall for this game ahead of Blatherwick. Picked up ten wickets in the ODC, a better batsman and home-grown. With Blatherwick’s injury perhaps he’ll get a chance in one of the remaining games.

Scott Read isn't commentating on the stream it's local guys. I think Scott must just be doing updates for Radio Lancashire. They've been good though, talked about Lancs a lot when they could easily stick to the home side. Where the stream takes advertising they are not allowed to use the BBC commentary. A few counties have gone down this route including Middlesex, Surrey, Northants and Somerset. If you want to listen to Scott Read he's still available via the BBC website. Personally I do prefer the balance of home and away commentators.

Blatherwick out with the team this morning though not taking part of any warm up. His right knee/thigh is heavily strapped but he's carrying a bat so I presume he'll be coming out when required.

I think we let this game run it's course at the moment. There's still 192 overs guaranteed because of the fine weather. Hopefully get through the first half hour without losing any wickets then runs will come. As anyportinthestorm has said we are a bowler down so we need as many runs as possible because today is forecast to be hotter than yesterday and yesterday was seriously hot, our 3 main line bowlers will be tested in those conditions. It is bloody hot just watching it! I'm just back from a couple of days at the Oval, same story there in it being "hard work" spectating in the heat. Had to retreat to the pub at lunch on the second day for some respite from the remorseless sunshine. Much prefer that to blankets and hot chocolate for April cricket. There were thousands at the Oval on Sunday, and a noticeably younger crowd. And of course it was a much smaller crowd yesterday with a much older crowd. Very disappointing that there is no more weekend cricket this season. Reflecting on something said earlier in the thread about Lancs and their younger talent, something Surrey do very well is get younger players in their team when they're ready. In this game Jamie Smith and Tom Lawes made significant contributions, with Gus Atkinson away for England. They do (as we know) raid other counties for players with Dan Lawrence coming in next season but they do produce a good number of their own players. Unlike Nottinghamshire. The Oval is a great place to watch cricket, seemingly in contrast with OT. All areas of the ground are open, £15 if bought in advance, I'm not aware of cheaper admission in the country. Stewarding is friendly and efficient, water fountains in abundance which was most welcome on this occasion. The viewing from the Pavilion is superb if you're lucky enough to use those facilities. Although something that made us chuckle was how critical many of the Surrey members were of their team's performance and decision making in a game in which they're well on the way to an innings victory and a second consecutive championship. Very amusing. Will switch my attention back to my home county today, agree that Lancs should aim to bat for at least a session today to reduce the burden on a potentially weakened attack in very hot conditions.

Completely agree about the Oval OE, I was there for the Lancashire game earlier this season and all four day's were a breath of fresh air compared to OT. You can see why Surrey have got so many members as the club appreciate them. Surrey have worked at it and are now reaping the dividends.

Update - he's had a mini net so definitely batting. He's been chatting to a guy right in front of me and the problem is at the back of the right knee, physio not sure at the moment what it is. Blathers said it came on all of a sudden when running for the ball. On the subject of his possible replacement for the Middlesex game, Wood should be available after his England T20 duties.

Realise we had a night-watchman, but no.8 is far too low for somebody of Balderson's ability to be batting. Congratulations to Bohannon on his 1000 runs for the season. No need to declare unless we somehow make it to tea.
Meanwhile, Charlie Barnard takes 3-26 from 10 overs for England U19 against Australia. Extraordinary economy rate for modern-day white ball cricket. Fonseka hasn't played since top-scoring in both his matches. Assume he must be injured. Keeper Carney not playing in this match either despite some useful scores in the previous games.

I would have liked to see Luke Wood play more red ball cricket this year, I think he has only played in the opening game of the season. If Wood is not available I think Tom Aspinwall would be picked if he has recovered from injury. We are really dependant on Bailey/ Williams in the seam bowling department.

Tight run for Baldy's ton, he would have been out with a direct hit. Well done George.
