Dale Benkenstein talking to Scott Read after the warm up game today said that Lancashire had a number of injured players but did not elaborate. I know Jack Blatherwick has a torn hamstring but don't know who else is injured. Mitchell Stanley doesn't seem to have been on the pre-season tour so is he injured? I've not seen any update on Saqib Mahmood, he fielded in the T20 in Dubai but did not bowl does anybody know what his situation is?

The four University games which are in progress or just finished have all been played at the county's home ground three of which are test venues. There has been time lost in all the games but the players have had some match practice. Where as our game at Loughborough was called off the day before it was due to start. I can't remember Lancashire playing a home pre-season warm up game. Obviously there is a cost to hosting an extra game at a busy venue but perhaps it is worth it to get the players some match practice in English conditions.

It all does smack of amateur hour. The hiring of a coach from the bottom club, the Lyon signing last minute twist, no warm up game. Have we got any fully fit first choice seam bowlers available? I fear a heavy defeat v Surrey.

I do wonder why Lancashire did not hastily arrange a two day friendly over the Easter weekend. They will be the only first class county not to have taken the field in England prior to the start of the season provided Essex and Gloucester get onto the field tomorrow or Tuesday in their 2 day friendlies.
Wonder if they approached Cheshire for a two day friendly?

might be interesting to see how Malinda Pushpakumara gets on for Birkenhead Park this season.
4 tests for Sri Lanka all in Sri Lanka top score 42* and BB 3-26 both against England. SLA and RHB same age as Lyon. Last played for Sri Lanka in 2018/19 against England. Top wicket taker in the Sri Lanka first class major league in 2023. His team shared the championship.

I agree if there is no chance of a result when the game starts I would be "resting" Nathan Lyon.

No I'd play Lyon....can't see any point in paying him a large salary just to kick his heels in the dressing room.
