“Well in 2011 Lancs played 6 games at Aigburth and won 4, lost 1 and drew 1. But Lancs also won 6 other games away from there. We also had a very strong and deep bowling attack in Kerrigan, Hogg, Chapple, Keedy, Mahmood and Tom Smith..” Our home and away records were identical that year ( W5, L2, D1) ; we lost at Southport and won at Blackpool. We were used to winning 5 away from home in previous years but usually only won one at Old Trafford. That made it absolutely rich that the Warwickshire captain peevishly said “ Well done to Lancs, they made the best out of home advantage.” That made me dislike Warwicks even more than previously and made it even better that their signing of Chanderpaul for the last three games didn’t win it for them. The only drawn game at home was to Warwickshire who could have won at Aigburth but were completely negative. We won away to Warwicks , Notts, Yorks , Hants, Somerset . Lost at Durham, Worcester and drew at Sussex. It’s the last time my memory for new things really worked well in the happiest summer of my life. Everything has merged into one since then . Be interesting to see how the pitches at the new second ground work out. That’s the only thing likely to get me back as a regular at home.

“Good to see Dane Vilas bow out with a hundred after what has been a difficult season for him. He has been a great player for us and an excellent captain. I was lucky enough to be at Colwyn Bay when he got his 266.” Agree with most things you write Alan and that is still the case here but I really don’t think he has been a good captain. I don’t see that much nowadays because of my dislike of Old Trafford but I see a reasonable amount on the stream and the out bid of outground and away games live. To me, he lacks enterprise as has every Lancs captain I’ve ever seen except Jack Bond, David Hughes and Wasim. I do think the players did play for him though as he has great respect from them. I agree Des. The players did play for him but he wasn't a good tactical captain. The three you mention were the best I've seen. I've been pleased to see Jennings start with more attacking fields. Stoneman was caught at fourth slip in the 1st innings, a position other captains haven't used for many years which would have resulted in four runs to third man, and , who knows, perhaps a century for Stoneman. Jennings has underused Wells as a bowler but does seem to have been a bit more proactive rather than completely reactive. It's been his first season as captain so we'll have to see whether he can progress in the role next season.
