can't see him retiring just yet, or being put out to retire by Ed Smith, when he's still capable of 13.2-5-20-5 against India. Will be ahead of McGrath before we know it 15 more required.

Started his 146th test overtaking Warne (145) as the most capped bowler, excluding all rounders such as Kallis. stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/records/283683.htmlNeeds to keep taking wickets if he is to retain his place and reach 600. Took one wicket two matches in Sri Lanka in 40+ overs. Nothing today yet in 14 more overs.

There are some suggestions that this year's Ashes will be Anderson's swansong. I really hope, and doubt, that this will be the case.
In the last 2 years he has looked as good as ever and being wrapped in cottonwool like he is I see no reason he can't still go on until at least the Ashes 2021 so long as he doesn't pick up any injuries.

James Anderson will step-up his bid to return to England's Test team with another match for Lancashire Second XI next week.
Anderson, who was forced out of the first Test of the Ashes series due to a calf injury, will feature in a four-day friendly fixture against Durham at Chester Boughton Hall CC from August 27. If he comes through the game unscathed, he will have a good chance of winning a recall to the England side for the fourth Test at Old Trafford starting on September 4.
Anderson bowled nine overs for Lancashire Seconds in a match against Leicestershire earlier this week. He claimed 2 for 23 and reported no recurrence of the calf problem that first bothered him in early July. NT
The nature of such fixtures will mean Anderson can be withdrawn from the action as required and will not necessarily be obliged to spend session after session in the field.
He was at Headingley on Thursday continuing his rehabilitation with the England medical team.

.... is being helped by Manchester City in his bid to recover from the injury that has threatened his career.
Probably not a ringing endorsement of (either) Old Trafford medical teams.
