What fantastic bowler Jimmy has been but think he is very close to the end of his career, at his age you can`t keep up the energy levels that are needed to be a international bowler, the injuries, new one`s and old one`s will happen more and more and can`t see him playing much for Lancs either after his England day`s are over which i would bet he may well be thinking about after this South Africa tour. Like i said, Jimmy has been one of Englands greatest ever bowlers but age catches up with everyone.

Suspect very few will this season to be honest think I've got more than Bess this season Yes, but how many games has Anderson actually missed this year? He has played 5 tests, so maybe 2-3 games. He would normally play 7-10 games tops. If the season had been a full season he might have played 2-3 games for Lancs in the first division.
14 wickets in 5 games could have been 20 in 7 games depending on who he played against and how many overs he was allowed to bowl.
He should of course be on 600 now, what was Buttler doing today, didn't get his hands near a regulation catch?
Just heard Aggers on the TMS online highlights ending with "Who knows if we will get any play tomorrow. Who knows when England will play their next test match"

Yes those dropped catches could mean an excessively long wait

Well he got there and congratulations to him. I do really agree with the article in the Cricket Paper last week that we should be thinking of him as a bowling coach for the Ashes and not as a bowler. Australian tours are ruthlessly hard on the body especially for seam bowlers. I would hate to see him go out taking a load of hammer as he did 2013 to 14.

Cricket legend James Anderson is to get a street in his home town named after him.
The Lancashire and England fast bowler is to receive a new accolade from Burnley, which has already made him a Freeman of the Borough.
Burnley Council meeting passed unanimously a motion recognising his achievement of becoming the the first fast bowler to take 600 Test wickets.
The 38-year-old passed the milestone in the summer.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service reports that the motion was proposed by mayor Wajid Khan, who said: "This council honours James Anderson being the first-ever test match fast bowler to achieve this historic milestone by naming a Burnley borough road/street in the name of James Anderson.
"He has been a great ambassador for the borough, having been born and bred in Burnley, as well as starting his cricketing career at Burnley Cricket Club.
"James is an excellent role model for Burnley youngsters as he has demonstrated it's possible to achieve their goals and aspirations and reap the rewards of hard work."
Mr Khan said the chosen street should be near where Mr Anderson was born and brought up and urged the Queen to recognise him with a knighthood.

Jimmy hasn't had a good Ashes so I wonder whether, if he intends to carry on, he might be tempted to play for Lancs in the last few CC games this season. Could let him prove to England that he is still a top bowler???

Sadly personal view time to retire absolutely zero chance of going to India, probably be lucky to see him again this season

I wonder if he might decide to play one final year with Lancs- I seem to remember him mentioning something along those lines in an interview a year ago or so.
Although I wouldn't blame him if he called it a day maybe after a final appearance in September if he wants to go out at Old Trafford.

He has said a few times that he would like to do that Rob. Great if he does but I remember Alex Stewart saying the same but he didn’t. I think the adrenaline crash after finishing Test cricket makes it very difficult.

Anyone can change their mind, but the way Jimmy was talking the other day made it sound like he had no intention of getting done any time soon. I think there is something to be said about retiring at the right time, but also sports people are retired a long time and they should get as much out of it as they can, as long as they enjoy it. I think its ok to drop down levels to keep playing if the enjoyment is still there, and they can compete at that level. In team sports sharing their experience to help clubs and players lower down can be useful, and maybe get a few bums on seats to help income too.

This subject cropped up on another forum a couple of days ago and this was my reply. Jimmy has always given 100% when turning out for Lancs but this has generally been in April/May when preparing for a home international series. I can't see him playing for Lancs in September, then it's a case of whether he is in England's plans. If he isn't does he really want to put his body through the tortures of pre-season then turning out in freezing April in front of a few hundred spectators (or at OT with those few hundred herded into one small stand) with the prospect of no Test series to come and some young whippersnapper county batsmen trying to make the headlines against an ex England legendary bowler? I'd love to see Jimmy play for Lancs for one last season but he has lived in the England bubble for the best part of 20 years, being amongst the elite, playing in front of full houses (most of the time). I'm not sure putting his body through another season of stress and pain just to jump on the domestic roundabout would be a thrilling prospect for him.
