I see already that Davies is not keeping for his Hundred team. Is he having more hand problems? It seems a bit fanciful to think he’ll be keeping for Warwickshire.

Quinton de Kock is keeping for the Southern Braves, he is always going to get the nod before Davies but I could see Davies keeping for Warwickshire next year. it will be interesting to see how his career develops after the move.

I don't think Davies can keep wicket for long, dodgy fingers!

What are Alex Davies' finger problems due to? a) Bad fingers b) Bad technique c) Bad Luck
Davies must think it is c) if his reason for moving to Warwickshire is so that he can keep wicket. The Lancashire management must think it is something else.

Davies left because he was only offered a 2 yr deal but he wanted 3years, so thats another home grown player gone and now we sign Salt as replacement. Why do we not look after our own players like we do with outsiders ?, Chapple was a outstanding player for Lancs but as man management/player communication goes he is shocking, he,s like a baby when things don`t go his way and he does my head in when on TV keep writing things down in a book, think it`s because he used to see Peter Moores doing it.
Half of the Lancs side next season will have been poached from other counties, WHY have we got a junior set up/Academy if we keep doing this ?.

Agree with every word Dutton.
Have to say I identify much more with Somerset nowadays. Not everything is perfect but it feels like a cricket club rather than an arm of a plc, it is fantastic at developing its own players and seems to be hated by the ECB which is good enough on its own. I never liked turncoats and indeed I don’t want to see Lancs lose but the time comes when the culture of a place is anathema that you really lose the keenness to see them win.

Because the Age Group / Academy doesn’t produce? Of last night's XI for a county who claims to produce home ground talent: Wells, Vilas brought in. Jones came through Cheshire's age groups until he joined the academy at 16/17 Livingstone came through Cumbria’s age groups until he was 15/16 and joined the academy Gleeson was missed by Lancashire completely Bailey only appeared after he went to Mysercough at the age of 18/19. Hartley missed out on the academy although played u14 development through to u19 for Lancs Only Croft, Bohannon, Davies and Lamb were spotted by Lancashire at an early age.
Looking back over almost 20 years of the academy 32 of 101 have played first class county cricket (23 for Lancs, the others for other counties). Is 23% good? Davies will be the 8th of the 23 to move onto another county.

If that's true it's ridiculous we should have kept Davies and not signed Salt.

If it's true that Davies was only offered a two-year deal, then it's bizarre that Salt was given a three-year deal. How much will we actually see of Salt, given he's closer to the England team than Davies?
The club seem to be making plenty of mistakes at the moment, both on and off the field at the moment, which doesn't bode well.
I'm starting to wonder what relevance county cricket actually has. With international cricket expanding, the increasing franchise T20 leagues around the world, and now the advent of the Hundred, any half decent player produced by a county will soon be whisked off to play for somebody else, and lose any sense of identity and loyalty. With the resultant ever changing team makeups, results are fast becoming irrelevant. Maybe that's what the ECB want.

That ‘s exactly what the ECB want SP. It’ll all be franchises with players just playing under the flags of convenience. Who will remember the name of the franchise that won this year by the time we get to next year?

Agreed he is a very promising cricketer. He could well end up playing for another county. Brings back memories of John Simpson leaving for Middlesex after Gareth Cross became first choice only to be released a couple of years later.

I've thought for sometime that the money counties get from the ECB should be weighted to encourage counties to develop local players. To do this using a carrot approach is difficult because of the different catchment areas ( what would Lancashire's be Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire? Cumbria? North Staffordshire). However it could be done using a stick approach where you penalise a county for every player they have on their permanent staff who has played for another county first IX.

Like that idea Alan. The ECB must be absolutely sick that three of the four finalists in the 2020 are non-test match grounds.
I see a plane flew past the test match with a trailer “ Sack the ECB and save Test cricket” . I would rephrase that as “ save cricket” .

I suspect that Davies was only offered a two year deal because Lancs wanted rid of him for non-cricketing reasons - i.e. too chippy for the club's liking - and knew that he would refuse the two year deal. I suspect that removing him as an opener in the T20 was calculated to upset him and make him want out. Lancs have always valued obedience more highly than ability and have always been particularly down on players who are thought to talk out of turn This culture has been sustained over generations by the policy of appointing loyal ex-players to the staff.
