Warwickshire are saying he won't start next season keeping. If England have given up on sibley and yates carries on as he has does he get in as an opener? Rhodes is the captain and Hain is their established no.4. Can't see a slot there. Therefore is he fighting with Lamb to bat at 5 and provide cover for sibley and burgess? Makes less and less sense. If, as we have been led to believe, Lancashire were only prepared to offer two years but he wanted three and / or knew three were possible at Warwickshire, maybe he simply backed himself into a dead end during negotiations. Who knows?
He could still prove everyone wrong and make it a success at Edgbaston. Yates could be with England before too long.

Not sure how he managed to persuade them he was no longer a horrible little man who had "worked hard to change his attitude to life"
I hate how they claim to have been firm with a five game ban but the reality is he will only serve 1. He has deleted his twitter account as they know. How many test matches did Robinson miss?

Wasn't expecting that although there wasn't any really obvious candidates. I've seen a couple of Warwickshire games in recent seasons and he's been prominent in their brains trust but not sure his, er, spiky personality shouts captain. Having said that, I had my reservations about Ben Stokes as a captain which proved completely unfounded so will be interesting to see how he goes.

Completely agree OE . I’m astonished but, like Ben Stokes, hope he proves me wrong.
Went to a splendid talk last week by John Abrahams ; lovely man. Must admit I was hoping he would talk about the 70s and 80s, but he talked about the young cricketers he had coached but I’m glad he did now. He said that Flintoff at age 19, was a natural leader and before anyone pooh-poohs that, it should be said that he had a splendid tour as captain in the subcontinent, but was a disaster in Australia . Sometimes people can be the right choice in the right place at the right time, and I hope that works for AD.

His form has been very poor for Warwicks (except against us, of course!) but I've always thought he would make a good captain. Maybe one of the reasons he left us was that he'd been told he wouldn't be captain. Who knows.
I remember a match at Southport a few years ago when Croft was captain. Saqib Mahmood, who was just breaking into the team at that point, bowled one perfectly good over but was taken off with Croft saying nothing to him. Saqib was looking bewildered fielding at long leg and it was Davies who ran all the way from his keeping position to talk to him and explain why, which I think was that Parry wanted to change ends. One example doesn't mean he'll make a good captain but I've just got the impression that he might be. Time will tell.
