I would open with Harry Singh and drop Wells down to 4. It would mean throwing Singh in at the deep end but after three consecutive innings defeats I think we need to try something different.

I believe Stanley was in the squad for the Durham game as well. He is genuinely quick but can you trust him physically?
Singh being added to the squad suggests to me he will play.
Vaughan bowls slowly giving it plenty of air, so our batsmen must use their feet to him to knock him off his length. Conversely Leach pushes it through and drags a few down so they can often play him off the back foot.

I'd thought much the same in the run up to the game. Open with Singh or Fonseca, need to do something to try and avoid being one down in the first few overs. If you put Wells into the middle order (I'd bat him 6) you give him a better chance to try and find some kind of form.

Fair play to Bairstow who is continuing to play for Yorks. He could easily become a t20 mercenary if he so wished. Imagine this is at least in part because he wants to get back into the Test side but I might be off the mark, might be too cynical a view.

I don’t think it’s cynical, but there may be a few reasons, including playing in a winning Yorkshire team with an obvious and realistic goal must be a lot more enjoyable than the misery-fest that is Lancs cricket at the moment. I imagine too, as he’s that sort of bloke, he does think he can get back into to the Test team, and a huge stack of runs is the only way he’ll do that, but I suspect it won’t be enough - you get the feeling once this England regime move on, then that’s it. Finally, I think, due to his family as well as his playing background, he’s got a genuinely deep attachment to Yorkshire. You’d hope Livingstone had something similar to Lancs, although I don’t see that, but we know Buttler/Lancs was only ever a marriage of mutual convenience and Wood/Salt are more recent incomers at a time when county affiliations have never seemed less important. If we have ‘white ball only’ players in reality that means the Blast. Given that due to other commitments (England, franchises) we only see them for a couple of games during that, it’s genuinely difficult for me to see why we don’t get rid.

So in effect Harry Singh is a nightwatchman to protect Wells from the new ball? Harry Singh opens for the seconds and opened in the ODC game at Derbyshire. Wells has had a terrible season, dropping him down the order might help him. The No4 position has been a problem all season with Balderson, Bell and Flintoff all tried there.

Rocky struggling to get off the mark again, admittedly in testing conditions. Allott making it pretty clear on comms he feels a more senior batter like Wells should be taking the responsibility. Feels like Somerset have missed a trick omitting Davey on this track.

I'm surprised Bell has kept his place and Aspwinall has been dropped. Then again selection and tactics have baffled me all season.

70-3. Our captain and our form batter at the crease, key partnership this, if we lose another wicket before lunch - it's curtains.

Just fulfilling our fixtures at this stage. Another embarrassing thrashing coming.
