Just read this on the Lancashire website:
As a result of the changed schedule because of Coronavirus, the ECB have introduced the Bob Willis Trophy final to be contested between the top two teams in the country.
It will be played over five days to guard against the late season weather and heighten the chances of there being a winner.
This idea of it being contested between the top two teams in the country is the problem. It’s only the luck of the draw that we weren’t playing Warwickshire last week. It clearly needs a re think.
Essex won the trophy last year in a match where the result was (Match Drawn; Essex won on first innings) which makes the last sentence on the website simply wrong. Also changes the dynamic half way through the game, one side is happy with a draw no incentive for declarations to achieve a result.
Could / Should be a curtain raiser for next season.

Squad of 14 announced on the website:
11 who played against Hampshire plus Hartley, Hurt and Jones.
Perhaps the most interesting part of the announcement is that Lavelle is listed as injured for the first time. That might explain why he was not keeping for the seconds on the last day of their last championship match and also may mean that he is still regarded as the replacement of Davies as a keeper.

My guess is the team will be the same as for the Hampshire game with Hartley coming in for one of the seamers possibly Blatherwick.

Wonder if Davies will play against his future employers.
Lamb has had probably the heaviest workload of all our players and has looked a little jaded in the last couple of games.
I like Hartley but late September isn't really two spinner time although our last opposition included three. Hurt is probably travelling for cover so Jones may be the only change.
It may be a consolation prize but we haven't won much this century outside of 2nd division titles so it would be great to win something.

That's is something the ECB should address and ensure that, at the climax of the season, the test players are made availableto their counties.. Yorksire were missing four last game. Warks Squad.
Rhodes (C), Benjamin, Bresnan, Briggs, Burgess (wk), Garrett, Hain, Johal, Lamb, Miles, Norwell, Sibley, Sidebottom, Yates.

Anderson's not had a bowl since 5th September and of course, may not be going to Australia. Obviously needs a rest then.
I struggle to think of Buttler as a Lancashire player; one championship game since 2017.

Suspect the weather will play a massive part in this game but make the most of it because our next match will more than liely be next April

Lancs should be playing Butler and Anderson. That Butler hasn't played 'red ball' for Lancs since 2017 is incredible. Surely, Butler and Anderson are available and not due to be involved elsewhere in the short term. If the ECB want 'bums on seats' and higher public profile for the game then this would be an ideal opportunity to use this game as a flagship end of season event at the home of cricket between the supposed best of the best 'red ball' county teams this season: two teams representing the two largest population centres in England, outside of London. It couldn't fall better for the ECB p.r. people. So no reason for the top players not to be taking the field

Lancs should be playing Butler and Anderson. ....
Agreed but we don't know whose decision it is that they are not playing today; the ECB or themselves...

Lancs should be playing Butler and Anderson. ....
Agreed but we don't know whose decision it is that they are not playing today; the ECB or themselves... From the BBC online coverage: "Warwickshire win toss Warwickshire v Lancashire - play starts 10:30 The important news to give you is that Bears skipper Will Rhodes has won the toss and put Lancashire in.
Having taken six wickets last week in Warwickshire's win over Somerset, England all-rounder Chris Woakes is not in their side at Lord's, so 19-year-old Manraj Johal makes his first-class debut.
Lancashire are again without opening bat Keaton Jennings and fast bowler Saqib Mahmood because of injuries, They make one change with batter Rob Jones recalled in place of Danny Lamb.
Warwickshire: Sibley, Yates, Rhodes (c), Hain, Lamb, Burgess, Bresnan, Briggs, Miles, Norwell, Johal.
Lancashire: Davies, Balderson, Wells, Bohannon, Vilas (c), Jones, Croft, Wood, Bailey, Blatherwick, Parkinson."
Can we assume that Livingstone, Buttler and Anderson’s omission is simply accepted as normal, whereas they needed to put in something about Woakes
