Hartley is the leading wicket taker in the India series but his strike rate is 63.5....mind you the England player with the best strike rate is Bashir at 61.6.

I’ve no idea of the going strike rate for decent Test spinners MITS but that doesn’t strike me as too bad?

Benkenstein: "But, who knows, it might be one of those strange summers when the sun comes out. Sometimes April and May can be warm and we might have the option of playing that second spinner."
surely it needs more than that?
"I'm a little bit biased towards spin, from my days as a captain," he added to BBC Radio Lancashire. "So I have to be sure I'm looking at this with analysis and not my heart."

It's not that hard to get him in. With Baldy and Bell in the top six, we can bat Hartley seven and still have four seamers. Everyone wins, right?

Well other than Lyon....will Hartley be off to the IPL? If so he could miss April and May for LCCC..

Would that not mean a top six of: Jennings, Wells, Bohannon, Salt, Bruce, Balderson, Bell - yes, I know that's 7. AFAIK Salt is not in the IPL. It seems the easy way of getting Hartley in is as a batsman to replace Bell - or when someone is injured.
As I understand matters Salt was in the IPL draft so could end up as an injury replacement call up but Hartley was not in the draft so can't be called up as a replacement.

Ah thought Salt was at the IPL. Maybe leave out Bell for the start of the season then. Think we have to play Hartley really.

It's very hard to see how Hartley gets into our First XI at the start of the season unless Lyon is late arriving. If we want to win the championship Bell should start as a batter ahead of Hartley. Every time England have a bowler who can hold a bat there's always claims that they're a potential all rounder. They rarely if ever are! Hartley has the potential to be a very good number eight, just like Ashley Giles, no shame in that, but I don't see a seven at international level.

I agree you are not going to play two spinners in April/ May on a green wicket in damp conditions. Hartley could be loaned out to a second division club at the start of the season which is a better option for him than carrying drinks or playing in the second team. Bashir is in a similar position at Somerset.

Destined for T20 World Cup It's within the club's first 9 championship matches of the season, Lyon would be available.

One or two people on other sites saying that with Lyon cutting short his stay it will open the door for Hartley leading the Lancs spin attack later on in the season. If he does progress with the England white ball team (and he made his debut last September) then England have a glut of T20/50 over matches against Australia in September so potentially he would not feature for Lancs in their final 4 CC matches, maybe leaving Lancs with only (a recalled) Morley? A case of too many spinners at the start of the season and not enough spinners at the business end?

Lets be honest, do we really expect Lancs to be in the CC running at the end of the season?
And if by chance Lancs are in the running, if they are short on players surely they can do a deal to bring someone in? Granted, who will be available thats any good? Well, we'd have to wait and see. I figure if Lancs are in a good place come the end of the season then a lot of their players who would be available all season, bar any injuries of course, must have been playing well it won't just be down to Lyon or Hartley.
