A draw looking our best chance here after letting them get too big a score with rain interfering the 1st day.

We desperately need to get batting points but being 4 down already doesn't augur well as we now have to dig in and avoid risks. If Somerset get a decent lead we could be struggling against Leach tomorrow. Can't blame Williams as a tailender and Bohannon got a really good one from Leach but Wells and Croft both got out to poor shots. Something is badly wrong and from Lancs's point of view the T20 break can't come soon enough.

Need a cench here from Balderson and for Mitchell to get over 50. Balderson has really done great with the bat recently.

Good knock off Mitchell, I guess Jimmy not coming out to bat.

Opportunity for Mahmood to make an impact though it must be hard for him coming back from a long term injury not to worry about a further injury...

Our games seem to be following a similar pattern: we ask the opposition to bat, get four or even five wickets before they reach three figures, but then get held up by significant contributions from middle and/or lower-order batsmen. Facing 300-400 we initially have to concentrate on getting past the follow-on figure. This Somerset game doesn't seem too much different.
Has anyone been either to the ground, or watched on livestream? Somerset's first innings included 44 extras, which included 24 byes, which seems a hell of a lot. Was it poor wicketkeeping, or just "one of those things"?
I don't expect they will give us an easy chase tomorrow and we might have to concentrate on at least getting the draw points again. If that is the case, it will be 35% of the season gone with no win. With Warwickshire having won three already, I suspect the Championship may be out of reach even at this stage. I just hope we can fashion a win or two out of somewhere.
On another note, I don't think that the ECB, not being the greatest lovers of county cricket, will be impressed that Anderson has got injured playing a county match. They'll be even more reluctant now to release players.

Facing 300-400 we initially have to concentrate on getting past the follow-on figure. This Somerset game doesn't seem too much different. Too true. Lack of penetrative change bowling and/or sloppy fielding have been our undoing. There's also been a problem with the first innings batting: the runs scored by Wells, Vilas and Croft between them have hardly added up to one good first innings knock. Yesterday two of them got out to poorly judged shots and the other played the correct shot but was already out by the time he played it. We've had a number of excellent 2nd innings recoveries but they don't score points. The constant dropping of catches suggests that, if only subconsciously, people's minds are not quite on the job. .

Yeah, it seems like a general malaise and not just one area that can be blamed. Bowling has taken decent points so far this season, but a few times we get a team on the ropes and can't finish them off and they make a batting recovery. Losing Jennings along with the poor form of Wells, Croft and Vilas has hurt on the batting side. We've dropped a lot of catches this match, but I haven't noticed that be a problem before.
