7 dropped catches in Somerset 1st innings....but IMHO dropping Parky was a big mistake...weakened our bowling too much. With hindsight if we had brought in Hartley and Bohannon for Jennings and Vilas or Croft maybe we might have got a win.

I think the Somerset batting has been a bit too negative this morning. Looking like it will be a token declaration to me.

Lead by 287 with 50 overs left. I can't see Lancs chasing 300ish with less than 50 left. They'll just defend.

The game has descended into a farce.
Glad I went yesterday rather than today.

Don't see the point of this. What's the earliest the teams can call a draw? 5pm?

Don't see the point of this. What's the earliest the teams can call a draw? 5pm? Whoever is batting can declare at 4.50 so that the 10 minute innings break takes them to 5pm.
If this had happened last year with 8pts for a draw, Lancs would be in 3rd one point behind Essex. Still miles behind the top two, though.

Left at tea. Today was the worst form of CC cricket. Decent weather but Somerset made no attempt whatsoever to move the game along and at least try and win the game. Lancs without their main bowler in Anderson and Saqib still feeling his way back after 12 months out. Yesterday evening Abell got on with it but today it was painful to watch. Somerset have got 3 international bowlers in Overton, Henry and Leach, they are in the bottom 3, they know that the Lancs batting can be flaky yet they still wouldn't try and force a win. Yes the pitch may have flattened out but if you don't buy a ticket you can't win the prize...oh and the spectators were not allowed to stretch their legs walking on the pitch at the lunch interval, I presume that is under the instructions from the ECB!

Agree JohnW. I have a lot of affection for Somerset cricket, but that was pathetic. So glad I and Oldham Exile made the decision not to go and went for a few pints instead.
Also feel the OT pitch has a bit of blame. Sadly , I feel we may see even more of that as the authorities want easy batting pitches for basball which, ironically will be over in three days given good weather because of daft shots. The Cricket Paper today confirmed my foreboding and even mentioned that they were thinking of bringing in the boundaries for Test matches. Anything to help the people of zero attention span not to have to wait too long for a four or six.

Given the flakiness of our top order and the fact that Somerset have an international left arm spinner, I'm not in the least surprised that we declined to chase 350 off 90 overs. Everything that has gone wrong since the season began has stemmed from our inability to post a good first innings total. I don't understand why anyone of Chapple's experience thinks that a batting order that has Croft at 3 or 4 is adequate against the kind of attack that can be fielded by the better teams in the CC. Hartley is a good lower order slogger and a great asset in T20 but when it comes to taking championship wickets he is at best third in the pecking order. He is keeping Parkinson, a genuine wicket taker, out of the side because Chapple expects us to be 75 for 4 before lunch and we need Hartley's batting.
As a result, we can't get sides out. We take early wickets with the new ball but can't build on our early success. We're not threatened with relegation because we're hard to beat but the title already looks out of our reach. It doesn't help that our home pitch flattens out in the later stages of the game, as we saw against Surrey, who comprehensively outplayed us but couldn't force a win.

Wait, I guess I don't know the rules of the county championship. How can Somerset "offer" Lancs a chase of 350 from 90 overs when they wern't even 300 ahead with 50 overs left? With how we are batting no wonder we turned it down.
